About this listen

Alonso Truylos's saga continues on the garden island that saved his life. His arrival, coinciding with the partial solar eclipse of 1586, convinces Queen Ka-ikilani and King Lono-i-ka-makahiki to ennoble him, against the wishes of a jealous hierarchy. This new role places him in the front and center of an exotic culture, where men are Gods, gifted children are taught magic by priests, and recreation rules the day.

After settling into this lifestyle and while attending a gathering of only the high-class, Alonso sets his eyes on a higher-classed woman, Lei. Alonso develops a relationship with this chiefess. But Alonso's closest friend, High-Chief Kahaloa is also pursuing her. Alonso and Kahaloa compete for Lei's attention, while at the same time war erupts between the King and his brothers. The Highest Chief of Chiefs, Lono-i-ka-makahiki must defend his kingdom, while at the same time protecting this mysterious foreigner from entering any battlefield.

Overnight, Alonso is forced to leave his love and his world-of-luxury behind and live in a jungle settlement amongst outcasts. While peacefully living high in the isolated forests, Alonso must make a decision that powerfully influences his destiny. Will he go against the King, return to civilization and fight for vanities or obey and keep his new title as a "lowly" bird feather collector?
