Publisher's Summary

Contains Books 1-3 of the Stone Cold Mage trilogy.

I'd always been special, but never knew it.

Then I go to stay at my aunt's while starting college, and she's killed because of me, her home invaded by demons, and I learn there is so much more going on in the world than I could have ever understood.

Throw in a couple of gargoyles and me unlocking an ancient path to insane amounts of magic, and you have my story.

Be careful, though, as it's not for the prude at heart.

Warning: For adults only: extremely mature or immature adults, that is. And in case that's confusing: Contains spicy harem elements.

Jesus horny-teen Christ

Wow.
Alright, so for the majority of my 20s and early 30s I'd gone to a few kinky events and goth clubs where bondage was a regularity and modesty was something to laugh at. given that, I've never been considered a prude.

So when I say that this author has me cringing every other minute about how much the protagonist has mentioned his 'cock' or 'package' as well as his rampant, perverted thoughts about the female characters that surround him, I hope you take my meaning.

Dear God, even the film Superbad took a break from the dick and sex remarks for a bit. I can't believe this guy's editor let him get away with this.

This is an absolute shame because the plot by itself isn't half bad, falling into the imaginative vein of similar successful concepts like the Percy Jackson books or Ready Player one.

But I'm on chapter 6 and already I feel like I'm listening to someone's take on an American version of a harem anime. for those who don't know, the overly reused basis of a harem anime which is a Japanese animated TV series, involves some young loser who suddenly gains some kind of super human ability or simply meets one gorgeous, buxom and often dumb love interest who casually and regularly undresses in front of said loser. This escalates with several other women of similar builds suddenly throwing themselves at him till they all end up living in his house where repetitive sexual hijinks ensue.

And even those were sort fun to watch...when I was 16.

but this guy.

oh...this guy.

he's literally finding gargoyle statues physically appealing BEFORE she comes to life. There are a number of instances where he can't help but talk about his dick and how it's reacting to his supporting cast or just because he's got morning wood.

when he's not doing that, then it's like listening to the 'song' Ass and titties.

writers shouldn't hide behind excess as an excuse to make their characters, especially their lead, seem more relatable or realistic. and this is what the author is guilty of. Like his harem anime counterparts, he's less a real character and more like a cartoon of a whistling wolf.

the narration is alright, but I often wondered if he was just as uncomfortable reading it as I was listening to it.

the story on its own is enough to keep me listening, but that could just because I've got nothing new to listen to.

Trashy MMORPG style with LOTS of sex.

Imagine a book where any substance that would add depth or meeting to the story had been carefully edited out, leaving only trash dialog. So many of the details that are necessary to give meaning are just not there. The amount of sex in the book was actually annoying. The lead character would be thinking about sex, or the women that he was around in a sexual way at all times no matter the situation. Not to mention every female character in the book was "hot", and immediately on the main characters jock without hardly an introduction. If a testosterone soaked teenage boy with an 8th grade writing ability was made to pen out his maturation fantasies, and frame the story in a mixup between a bad video game, & C budget movie, then you have this story. I actually was unable to finish book 2 or even start it, for that matter. I have never so thoroughly hated content I have purchased on audible and in my long history of using this platform, I have never left a book unfinished. Do yourself a real solid and refrain from spending your credit on this 1. I wish I had taken more time to read the description before my hurried purchase.

Great story

Enjoyed the story. I know one of the critiques was that integrating the government was unrealistic, but given the subject matter I think the author did a great job. It’s fantasy. And this book was a good one. While the mature content was welcome, the story was good enough to stand on its own, and the mature content was not overwhelming.

excellent story.

this is an excellent trilogy, very easy to get caught up in the moment. I read a few of the reviews, and I believe there where one or two that complained about the protagonist being to op, but I myself believe that not to be completely the case. His power equaled his belief/confidence in him self, which is exactly how it's supposed to be. but as I said that is only my thoughts. I do recommend this if you are just wanting a good story to lose yourself in.

At least it's all three

I finished the first two books and couldn't go further. The main character is incredibly boring. While the side most of the side character's are interesting they never got anytime to develop. That's probably my biggest problem with Jamie Hawke's stories there always too short. I was willing to give him another shot since it was 1 credit for all three books, but wasn't really worth it. Narrator did an alright job.

Great book and a fantastic ending

I enjoyed listening to this book series quite a bit and while it is not his highest selling book series i believe that it is one of his best written in regards to the story line but some of the characters seem to be lacking depth due to what seems to be rushed back stories. I highly enjoyed the book as a whole and don't regret the listen but i would have liked a little more background information on some of the women and a better sense of how they interact between themselves as well.

overall not bad

Overall I rather enjoyed listening to this audio version of these stories. Although I think Jericho is an idiot. I enjoyed the ladies both gargoyles and witches.

Cringy

Seemed to try way too hard to write intimate scenes. Extremely cringy. I just couldn't really get into the story because I couldn't move past the forced sexual content. It just did not even seem to flow and tie in with the story much, It was tossed in as often as the writer could get away with it.
