Publisher's Summary

All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot. Of proving she's a hero like her father. She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing. The rumours of his cowardice are true - he deserted his flight during battle against the Krell. Worse, though, he turned against his team and attacked them.

Spensa is sure there's more to the story. And she's sure that whatever happened to her father in his starship could happen to her. When she made it outside the protective shell of her planet, she heard the stars - and it was terrifying. What she learned turned her world upside down. Everything Spensa's been taught is a lie.

But Spensa also learned a few things about herself - and she'll travel to the end of the galaxy to save humankind if she needs to.

Better than the first one

I found this story quite good. The main character stops being so 2-dimensionally single-minded and learns to accept some grey areas. Unfortunately yet again the author doesn't really end the book but leaves it so that there is definitely a third. Personally I find this really annoying. I understand the concept of a series but like each book to FINISH.
Having said all of that, I find I can relate to the main character more now and wish her well. And do want to know what happens next.

No Regrets

I ordered this months ago when I finished the audio book for Skyward. I am so pleased I did so. The story has kept my attention with no dull spots and the performance is excellent. It fits the story well and really adds to the tone of the story

Not as good as first book but will continue to next

I feel this book had a bit too much padding in the middle which could be culled out and still get the story across. I liked the first book better, others say they like this one more. Weird narrator and her accents which dont really gel with the (esp male) characters. Maybe they could have a male/female duo reading it. Enough interest to hear the final book though. Overall a 6 for me

Great from beginning to end 👌👏

After the long build up and character development of book 1 this book does not disappoint. There's a lot of action all the way through, and it's good. I started reading it and thought "wow this is good" and it stayed that way all the way through.

Although I gave it 5 stars I will add that it's not brilliantly good, with the introduction of new characters in a new setting I found I didn't have the emotional investment that I had with those in book 1 after it's great character development, although I tried to love them it was a challenge.

This books got a great beginning and a great ending so I can't complain too much, I'm looking forward to the next in the series & as a sci-fi fan I'm excited that Brandon Sanderson is branching out into the genre after all his fantasy books, it feels like Sanderson is just flexing his writing muscles here.

Such a great performance

Usually Sanderson books are heavy on content and delivery ( but I love them ), but this series is full of humour with excellent narration. A wonderful yarn that just rushes along

Great second book!

Once again Spensa and M-bot strive to save Detritus and now the Galaxy as well. Well paced fun story that keeps the reader hooked. I can't wait for book 3.

Amazing!

If you loved the first one you’ll love this one as well! The narrator is amazing as always and Sanderson knows how to write a book that will have you on edge as you listen.

I knew it, I knew it

And it was still very satisfying to hear “the secret”
I love this book, very entertaining and also helps putting things in perspective about how we think of people who are different to us.
I don’t know why M-Bot has a Scottish accent but I like it.

Kind of ok

Follows well on the first book, but from somewhere in the middle I hit a stretch of unrelenting dreariness which put me off the book for a good while. Eventually I soldiered on, and it’s fine at the end.

Another Branderson Classic!

Fresh feel to a Branderson classic. The characters are so real, even though set in a deep sci-fi story line. The introduction in Skyward explodes into a fantastical narrative that transports the characters and reader to new realms, taking all on a truly emotional journey that keeps the nerds in us guessing what will be around the next corner!

Skyward was SciFi, Starsight is just Fi

In the first book of the series the author built a solid, planet-sized world based on a believable scenario with just a single superpower added to the hero, and a few shortcuts taken. Anyway the reader had an idea of what should be possible, could anticipate and judge the performance of the characters within that set world. Starsight is different. All the wold's boundaries are off and the made-up things are so numerous that there is nothing to relate to. There is always a new surprise from a new source, and the final "Nth dimension ex machina" is the worst. The hero does nothing, she just watches as new circumstances crop up, unexplained, all around her. Maybe if this was the 4th or 5th book in the series, and the facts were introduced more slowly, it could have made sense. But as it is, I don't understand what happened, how much of a happy end it was and if it was a happy end at all. Quite disappointing.

Safe 2nd instalment

This is definitely in the Sanderson Young Adult category. The writing is good, but not quite his exceptional world-building standard. It's a good second instalment, and you can see plot starting to grow (although this time, I guessed the plot twist!).
It's a steady, fun sci-fi story - but not earth-shatteringly brilliant. Still, if you're a Sanderson fan, then this won't disappoint you (but I'm not giving my usual 5-star-devotee plug).

Great book, and excellent voice actor

After the first book, I had big expectations for starsight.

As usual, Sanderson does not disappoint. great story, twists and mysteries you won't see coming, and great characters.

The voice actor was perfect, really brought the characters to life.

Not sure why, but it's boring.

I love Sanderson novels I've got loads of them and always look forward to a new one. Unfortunately for some reason I'm finding Starsight a bit of a slog. I like that we're peeling back the layers of the Human/Superiority mystery but we're doing so really slowly, and the intrigue is just a bit boring. The action feels distant and disconnected without much at stake so it doesn't pep the rest up really. Spin is still an interesting character, you can feel the misguided paranoia washing off her and of course the interplay between her and the ship is great, but the other characters are kind of meh so far.

Enjoyable Continuation of the story

Compared to the first installment, some of the plot elements felt a bit more far fetched / harder to believe, but it was still overall an enjoyable story. It did feel like most characters were fleshed out as much as you'd hope for which added to the story. Lots of good themes to think about too, especially for a YA audience.

One thing to note it's a shame audible doesn't have any way of showing you the illustrations and maps which accompany the text of this story. Just an extra option in my 'library' to browse accompanying media or something would be nice.

Recommended SiFi Story.

This series was thoroughly enjoyable. Ide recommend this to anyone who likes SiFi and has a good imagination. Its nice clean story with genuine twists and turns that won't make you loose your place. The narrator does a brilliant job which makes it easy to identify the characters. Please think about continuing this series. Its very enjoyable and would make a film too.
