Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs - once thought of almost as gods - were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot. Of proving she's a hero like her father. She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing. The rumours of his cowardice are true - he deserted his flight during battle against the Krell. Worse, though, he turned against his team and attacked them.
Spensa is sure there's more to the story. And she's sure that whatever happened to her father in his starship could happen to her. When she made it outside the protective shell of her planet, she heard the stars - and it was terrifying. What she learned turned her world upside down. Everything Spensa's been taught is a lie.
But Spensa also learned a few things about herself - and she'll travel to the end of the galaxy to save humankind if she needs to.

Great from beginning to end 👌👏
After the long build up and character development of book 1 this book does not disappoint. There's a lot of action all the way through, and it's good. I started reading it and thought "wow this is good" and it stayed that way all the way through.
Although I gave it 5 stars I will add that it's not brilliantly good, with the introduction of new characters in a new setting I found I didn't have the emotional investment that I had with those in book 1 after it's great character development, although I tried to love them it was a challenge.
This books got a great beginning and a great ending so I can't complain too much, I'm looking forward to the next in the series & as a sci-fi fan I'm excited that Brandon Sanderson is branching out into the genre after all his fantasy books, it feels like Sanderson is just flexing his writing muscles here.

Another enthralling instalment in the Skyward Series
I am really enjoying my first sojourn into the world and mind of the writings of Brandon Sanderson. Mind you the narration of Sophie Aldred is second to none!

A wild ride from start to end!
The story continues right where the last one ended, and the thrills just keep coming. I wasn't sure if I liked the whole becoming a spy thing initially but the emotional struggles that came from that were really well done and fascinating. The best part of this book is the incredible amount of world building it does for the greater universe and I can't wait for more!

Better than the first one
I found this story quite good. The main character stops being so 2-dimensionally single-minded and learns to accept some grey areas. Unfortunately yet again the author doesn't really end the book but leaves it so that there is definitely a third. Personally I find this really annoying. I understand the concept of a series but like each book to FINISH.
Having said all of that, I find I can relate to the main character more now and wish her well. And do want to know what happens next.

No Regrets
I ordered this months ago when I finished the audio book for Skyward. I am so pleased I did so. The story has kept my attention with no dull spots and the performance is excellent. It fits the story well and really adds to the tone of the story

Made my skin crawl, and emotions soar
This series is fantastic. There are moments that are creepy, scary and just plan horrific that made me physically react to the audiobook, there are times when I got excited I just couldn’t stop listening, and times when I had to stop for 5 minutes to go over it all over again in my mind. Incredible
