Publisher's Summary

On a planet code-named Gateway stands a mysterious portal to the past, the Guardian of Forever. Spock, Kirk, and McCoy have just returned from a voyage through the gateway with a young man named Zar - Spock's own son from ancient Sarpeidon! But while Spock and the brilliant, primitive youth try to bridge a gap of centuries and cultures, Gateway is seized by the Romulans. The Enterprise must destroy the planet rather than let the Romulans use the past as a weapon - and Kirk has 12 hours to find a way out. Only Spock and Zar have any chance of penetrating the Romulan forces on Gateway. Suddenly, father and son are plunged into a fierce fight for their lives - and a battle to keep the Romulans from fatally changing the past! Featuring a dramatic reading by Leonard Nimoy and James Doohan, and enhanced with sound effects and an original score!

Warning this is a highly abridged book. Not even worth listening to

I did not realize when I purchased this book that I was only purchasing a very small portion of it. So much has been taken out that it has ruined the story ruined any character development and so on. I recommend buying an actual copy of the entire book and reading that.

Solid continuation of TOS episode

I’ve recently been catching up on Star Trek books that I missed as a teenager. This is — in part — a continuation of the penultimate episode of The Original Series, “All Our Yesterdays.” With James Doohan narrating and Leonard Nimoy voicing several internal monologues by Spock, Yesterday’s Son (1983) feels like a hidden episode of TOS. For Trekkies, a fun audiobook.

Star trek TOS

This was a great book, and great follow up book, I really wish they could've made these as special episode. It would have been great. I recommend this book and the follow up.

Great follow up to TOS S3 All Out Yesterdays

I chose this audio book after watching for the first time ever last night on Me TV and learned there was a book sequel to it. I thought 1 credit for 90 minutes was high. But I was shocked to hear Leonard Nimoy and James Doohan did voice work for this book making it totally worth it for me. If I could quibble about the story, the actions of McCoy in it just never felt like Deforest Kelley himself was ever performing in the scene. I found myself thinking McCoy would never do that in certain parts. This 90 minute story was great for a commute to a friend's farm and back to my home . I'm glad Audible still makes it available and encourage all Star Trek fans to try it.

The Voices from the past James and Leonard.

well it's nice to hear their voices from the past, space time between Fathers and Sons and never separated and rejoined in the future. It is a test of time between the bonds of the father and the son. the story is one of those heartfelt and just remind me of my own feelings for my own father.

felt the abridgement

while this story is beautifully read, you can really feel that the story has been hacked to pieces even though it was the original author who adapted this recording. On the plus side for then, I went out and bought the book to get to grips with the missing elements. All in all its a good story and if you want a quick listen it makes for an acceptable listen but purists and unabridged fans beware.
