Publisher's Summary

Two young ladies contend with the Royal College of Wizards in Regency London: first in the series filled with "magical twists and turns" (San Diego Union-Tribune).

Since they were children, cousins Kate and Cecelia have been inseparable. But in 1817, as they approach adulthood, their families force them to spend a summer apart. As Cecelia fights boredom in her small country town, Kate visits London to mingle with the brightest lights of English society. At the initiation of a powerful magician into the Royal College of Wizards, Kate finds herself alone with a mysterious witch who offers her a sip from a chocolate pot. When Kate refuses the drink, the chocolate burns through her dress and the witch disappears. It seems that strange forces are convening to destroy a beloved wizard, and only Kate and Cecelia can stop the plot. But for two girls who have to contend with the pressures of choosing dresses and beaux for their debuts, deadly magic is only one of their concerns.

I love both the audio and the book.

I have waited a long time for this to come out on audible. I am anxious to hear the next two and hope her book A matter of Magic / Merilon the Magican comes out as well. They are my best comfort books and I will listen to all of them often.

Sorcery and Cecelia has been read at last!

The amazing brainchild of two of Fantasy's best authors, particularly where magial alternate histories are concerned, I have seldom been so delighted to see one of my favorite books rendered in audio form. Lucy Rayner brings these personable characters to life perfectly. I was particularly impressed with the voices of Thomas and Miranda, who sounded even better than I could have imagined. If you have any regard for Jane Austen and magical fantasy, you really must listen to this. I knew how it would end, having read and reread the series often, and I was still on tenterhooks at the climax of both plots. I would write more, but I need to go and listen to The Grand Tour immediately.

Quite delightful in every aspect

I loved this book on paper and was delighted to finally hear it read aloud on Audible. The narrator was perfectly marvelous. She got the voices, intonations and emphasis exactly right. She read it as had always imagined it in my mind and as I heard my friends read it aloud on car rides. I have been thoroughly entertained.

Jane Austin with Magic

This is a very light story with a bit of romance and magic. It is an enjoyable and restful respite from your mundane world. The narrator does not sound as conversational (the book is a series of correspondence between two cousins) as I would have wished but it isn't terrible either.
