I found myself slipping into the magical lore of this world with ease as I followed Elyria through the early chapters. Her emotional journey felt very real and engaging, and as the story unfolds, the layers of her past and present begin to surface in a way that kept me glued to the story.
Meeting Cedric, along with the wider cast, was entertaining and at times very moving, especially once the trials begin. Learning how the magic works, exploring the history of the realm, and watching bonds form while also seeing tension and conflict rise, created an unexpected but very fulfilling journey.
For a handful of chapters, I was so immersed that the emotions hit me hard and I wept. Having the audio narration heightened that experience. Dan Calley and Stephanie Németh-Parker were incredible narrators, and really helped bring the story’s imagery and emotions to life.
I found characters I connected with, and others I reacted strongly to for different reasons, and I loved how the story allowed room for that. The twists toward the end genuinely surprised me and left me eager for book two. I cannot wait to dive back into this world!
