About this listen
Escaping the rat race for a few happy weeks, Tom Chesshyre indulges in the freedom of the tracks. From France (dogged by rail worker strikes) through Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland he goes, travelling as far east as Odessa by the Black Sea in Ukraine.
With no set plans, simply a desire to let the trains lead the way, his trip takes him onwards via Hungary, the Balkans and Austria. Along the way he enjoys many an encounter, befriending fellow travellers as well as a conductor or two. This is a love letter to Europe, written from the trackside.
©2019 Tom Chesshyre (P)2020 SoundingsI love travelling around Europe and am off on a fresh three-month unlimited rail-travel trip in a few weeks' time on a Eurail Pass.
Tom's penchant for detail was amazing - I've no idea how he remembered so much and who said what, when! But much of the information he included was interesting to me and I myself, record similar details when I travel around Europe (usually in a campervan).
David Thorpe's delivery was truly outstanding. He has such a cheerful voice and an amazing ability to take on different accents, I always felt uplifted whenever I turned on Audible to listen to this book and am now on my second 'reading'!
One of the most enjoyable audiobooks I've heard!
