Lord of the Rings + Breaking Bad + The Sopranos = Skulduggery

It’s a world ruled by elves, and they have decided that alcohol and magic is illegal for all the other races.

But I know how to make whiskey. In fact, that’s the easy part.

Selling it under their noses and not getting caught and hung will be the hard part.

I’ll need to build a crew, I’ll need to slit some throats, and I’ll need to be five steps ahead of our overlords.

Wanna join me in building a criminal empire?

I bloody love this book Logan Jacobs did a fantastic job with this book.

And with the voice acting talents and skills of Rebecca Woods and Gabriel Michael who narration makes the characters and world come alive .

absolutely love it

it's been a few months since I've been unable to put down a book for more than a day but this one had my attention from the first chapter.

pretty ok

so I didn't love this. but I did enjoy it over all. mostly there were some style choices I wasn't a fan of and I felt like this lacked the humor that it needed. this wants to be dark fantasy and it beats you over the head with what a selfish asshat every on is and frankly it gets exhausting.

It gets going...

A bit slow to start but when the key started talking it quickly snowballed from there.

Woot! It's about time...

I've been waiting for "Skulduggery" to hit audible ever since I read the first novel. The story is good and the characters are simply phenomenal. Stellar performance by the duel narrators. This was a fantastic listen! This series, written by Jacobs, is currently my favorite by the author and in my top 5 of all time for incredible characters. The character quality is simply superb! It's about time! Look forward to further audio books from this series.

A truly unreadable book

I tried to like this one--I really did. I like the worldbuilding and the whole bootlegging scallywag vibe is super neat. This is enough to earn the story 2/5 stars.

Unfortunately, the author has no concept of character voice. All of the characters are mindless chess pieces the author maneuvers around to serve the plot. None of the characters have unique personalities nor do the make sensible choices. They just do whatever the plot calls for regardless if it makes sense for that character.

This creates contradictory characters who are insanely smart and competent on the few occasions where the plot calls for it, but mostly its just the main characters being idiots, trusting the wrong people, falling for tricks and traps, etc. as the author attempts to orchestrate this slice-of-life story into sorting resembling an interesting plot.

You can tell the author is either a novice or has lost interest because this is a horrible book.

I gave the performance 5/5 despite the fact that the narrator's southern accent is not great (although he does improve significantly within the first several chapters). I feel like this accent was a mistake, and likely the author's decision. Other than that, the narration was quite good, and I love the fact that there are two voice actors.

Overall 3/5: Would not recommend. Though if you really like dual narrators, and have a stronger stomach than I do for books with compelling worldbuilding, but weak (extremely weak) characters, you might actually enjoy this.

Great Story.

Unlike many of the Harem Fantasy books out there... this one has a decent story. Not as many steamy scenes as some of my favorite Harem Fantasy series, but the 2 scenes are pretty good.

nice idea, questionable execution

The world concept is intriguing. The criminal element is well done. That's it. The racial tension is overdone and unbelievable, the magical keys are just not written into the story in any sensible way and the characters are broken. They are described one way and written another way. The author needs to go to the beginning and start over. I'll try the other books for now.

It's all a bit bland

Story had an interesting premise however it was never really exploited or maximised, the main character I don't like him but I don't exactly dislike him either he's pretty middle of the road. The whole affair is just... uneventful.
