About this listen

Harry is the best and technically the 'only' at what he does, being the lone professional wizard PI in the Chicago phonebook. So when the Chicago PD has cases that transcend mortal capabilities, they come to him for answers.

For the 'everyday' world is actually full of strange and magical things - and most of them don't play well with humans. Yet despite his precautions, Harry tends to stumble from crisis to drama in his dealings with the supernatural world - call it an occupational hazard.

Here, he unfailingly manages to get on the wrong side of werewolf, fae, and vampires alike. And that's where his own rather special powers come into play....

These bite-sized stories are tremendously entertaining and will leave you itching to explore more of Harry Dresden's world. And as well as eight short stories, this collection includes an all-new Dresden Files novella.

Side Jobs gathers together a bunch of Dresden short stories and novellas all of which take place before, during or right after the first twelve books. They tend to be self-contained PI jobs Harry performs although there are two novellas involving and told from other characters’ POV. Harry’s half-brother Thomas has his own adventure, letting us into his constantly tempted mind. Chicago Police Officer Sgt Karen Murphy also has her own case, stepping up in Harry’s absence and going toe-to-toe with some very vicious supernaturals. The stories all carry Jim Butcher’s creative genius, trademark humour, and well-written action scenes.

I’m not usually a fan of short stories—they often feel rushed with little time for characterisation and a simplistic plot—but there are some great stories here with poignant or amusing insights into Harry and the other main characters. I especially enjoyed Thomas and Karen’s novellas, which are worth the price of the book alone. It was great to give them their time to shine! Karen’s story, in particular, helps orient us after the cataclysmic Changes (book #12) and its aftermath, and prepares us for the bleak dawning horror of Ghost Story (book #13). 🎧 US actor James Marsters gives great performances on all the stories, showing his versatility in voicing a huge range of characters.

Great set of Dresden & Co short stories & novellas

Side Jobs is a series of short stories that fit in between the current books. I'd read the books before I worry about the short stories as some spoilers are contained in these stories. It also tells the stories through other characters. My favourite is the one containing Thomas. But you will have to read to find out why.

Loved it, could listen to Masters tell Butchers stories forever. thought it wouldn't be as entertaining as a fully fledged boom initially, but these shorter stories were all very good.

Nice filler until the next book

These short story’s are great bit of back story to the already awesome world of dresden, ana a nice change is that some of these story’s are written from different character perspectives which was a really cool idea and mix up.

Some of the story’s are weaker than others but all in all a fun listen and worth it squeeze out abit more of the series I have come to love

The awesomeness continues
