About this listen

Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal.

When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

Jim doing Jim, so good!

I enjoy the James Masters reads of Dresden, but hearing Jim putting his voice behind the character he's been writing for most of my adult life is just something special.
Can't wait for the next novel in this series!

Representative of everything good about Jim's work

This is really wonderful writing and performance. Remember though Jim, Bob might be your character but James Marsters made him British. Bob is British. British people have a British accent 😂.
I enjoyed Jim's "Dresden voice" being more John Wayne-esque. This was a great little interlude and really got me in the feels at the end when you realised the healing process has finally started for Harry after all he's lost and sacrificed.
Favourite author of all time.

good story, need little more character building

Good to hear Jim's voice however the performance did lack diversity of characters. Most male characters were voiced similarly. But as always love the stories.

nothing less than I expected

It's completely understandable that Jim narrated this one. It was good to see Harry get back to his roots.
Jim if your reading this, I loved that you added the "bloopers". Adding the bloopers managed to add a perfect bit of something extra.
Thank you for the excellent stories.

Enjoyed getting a mini Dresden fix before the next book!

Loved it and highly recommend to any Dresden fans. Jim did a really great job reading - it was so fun to hear the characters as he must imagine them in his head. Also loved the bloopers at the end!

So keen for the next book

At first I was supper disappointed about the change in voice actor, it just didn't feel like it was Harry. But after an hour I was adjusted and loved the story. Jim did a great job with the voice acting.

My first Dresden audio book

A great addition to the Dresden-verse
Sad to experience Dresden pain in the aftermath of Battle Ground, but was happy to see Harry go back to his detective roots.
I seriously laughed out very very loud, and that was before the bloopers section.
A get read Mr Butcher, a joy to listen to 💜

worth it just for the blooper reel

Did I want a full novel instead of this bite sized snippet?
Sure.

Was the experience any less enjoyable for this fact?
Not at all.

Harry fights the law, but does the law win?

Given his power and notoriety, you’d think that Harry Dresden, resident wizard of Chicago and Knight of the Winter Court, would be able to intimidate a newly released ex-con pimp who is suing a woman who has set up a tutoring charity for underprivileged children. But this guy is strangely unconcerned by Harry’s threats (and bluffs). Could it be the incredibly high-powered supernatural lawyer he’s hired who wins over 95% of his cases? Harry will have to get super-creative to stop this injustice from happening!

I love the humour in this series as well as the displays of magical power. Harry continues to champion justice for the weak and do the right thing simply because it’s the right thing to do. His powers have increased over the series but he still finds himself out of his depth, which is always fun. 🎧 This novella (about 3.3 hrs) is narrated by the author (for a change) and he does a great job!
