Summary

When a book launch party turns murderous, can he capture a killer before they escape justice?

DCI Harry Grimm has a sneaking suspicion the bleak Yorkshire Dales are growing on him. Though shadows from his big-city past still loom, he’s finding his place among the quirky townsfolk and their eccentric eating habits. But his gruesome crime scene expertise takes center stage when a successful visiting author is found dead.

Investigating the cantankerous writer’s entourage, Grimm lines up too many suspects with motives for murder. But with the evidence not adding up and the press piling on relentless pressure, the determined policeman could end up facing his own final chapter.

Can this seasoned detective solve a sinister case of fatal fair game?

Shooting Season is the atmospheric fourth book in the DCI Harry Grimm crime fiction series. If you like complex heroes, fast-paced action, and murky mysteries, then you’ll love David J. Gatward’s gritty manhunt.

A true murder mystery with all suspects staying in the same house. Nice twists and turns. I wasn’t able to even guess “who-dun-it”. DCI Grimm is becoming more and more of a warm character (we always knew he was). The team from the Dales are a wonderful group of people whose characters have become more defined as the series goes on. I do love this series and the stories have been excellent. I’ll be reading on.

Love DCI Grimm, the team and The Dales

Joy Ellis, Elly Griffiths, lJ Ross to name a few of the excellent authors that have taken me from Australia and Immersed me in there own parts of England with descriptive, humorous detective stories and I am so happy to have come across David J Gatward. I could literally see the dales beauty and feel his love of the area. I have listened to the stories of Harry and his team like listening to letters from old friends. The narrator is also to be applauded… great work. I feared I would not find anymore books in my genre but I have found another gem. The humour, relatability to characters and the story lines are wonderful. Unfortunately this is as close as I’ll get to the Dales but please keep Harry going. By the way I really enjoy your footnotes too.

What a surprise!

This series is such a memorable and enjoyable find on so many levels… great plots with evocative and well described settings but more importantly a believable and dare I say, loveable, central character of Grimm. The support characters of the team are totally enjoyable. Love getting to experience Harry’s new life with him as he comes to terms with the hand life has dealt him. Oh one last thing, Aubrey’s narration just makes the story come alive. Can’t wait for more!

Fabulous and engrossing series
