  • Summary

  • Sheltered is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi sitcom, starring Gemma Whelan, Sindhu Vee, Rufus Hound and Marek Larwood. Other parts are played by Wilf Scolding, Alana Ramsey, Felicity Duncan and C Grezo.

It’s been centuries since Armageddon and no one has ever left the bunker that has sustained what remains of civilised human life....

When innocent simpleton Gary and social climber Veronica are sent to explore the world outside, they soon regret ever leaving the safety, soft furnishings and quilted toilet paper of Fallout Shelter 7421.

As they reluctantly join forces with the (frankly unjustifiably) arrogant pirate, Lady Reaver, to find their way back, they are forced to reckon with a wasteland of hellishly psychotic robots, hairy radioactive mega-badgers, and slavering cannibals.

Our heroes Veronica (Gemma Whelan) and Gary (Rufus Hound) have been selected to be the first to exit luxurious Fallout Shelter 7421, since the apocalypse of many generations ago.

Simpleton Gary is up for exploring, but Veronica is determined to hide around the corner for two weeks, eating baked beans. Disaster strikes when they are captured by slavers and thrown into a prison cell. There they meet up with deluded, self styled pirate queen Lady Reaver (Sindhu Vee) and her hideously deformed mutant Clump (Marek Larwood).

Despite their collective incompetence, they escape, but Veronica and Gary are now lost in the desolate wilderness of post-Armageddon Britain. How will they ever get back to civilisation?

Great fun and well done

This reminded me of listening to the radio show of HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy. I found this absolutely hilarious. It never lagged or strayed or got dull. The four main characters are brilliant. They are all well written and well acted. I wish I could remember where I heard about this one because I owe them a huge thanks.
Have a listen. You’ll love it!!

Great listen

I really enjoyed it. Quite immersive tbh and this is probably my first listen of such genre. But I do have my reserve, hence the four stars, about how the story "ended"; I think it could've been a little more interesting but was left with wanting more, not like "I'll wait for the 2nd part!" but more like "Da fuq?"

Actually really good!

This wasn't what I was expecting. I listened to it a while after having downloaded it and thought I would be listening to a horror/sci-fi post-apocalyptic story with a serious tone, but was surprised to find that this was actually a post-apocalyptic COMEDY, and a surprisingly funny one at that! The characters are all easy to like, the actors are great and the variety of voices are well done and pleasant to listen to (nothing worse than a narrator with an annoying voice). The story is episodic with a continuing story arc, which works perfectly for the half hour lengths. My only qualm is that I want more, and with the unfinished mission in the final chapter, I'm hoping we'll get a sequel really soon.

Excruciating

Smarty-pants and vulgar, but unfortunately not funny or clever. This is a feeble mis-fire of the sort you find on the BBC Comedy of the Week podcast on a bad day. Definitely one for the free giveaway table.
