Publisher's Summary

The lot of an SAS man is not always a happy one.

Strikeback hero John Porter is sent on a mission with Regimental scallywag John Bald. Where Porter plays it by the book, Bald will always want to break the rules. They are sent to Sierra Leone to extract Ronald Soames, a former CEO of the Regiment and now right-hand man to the President. But when Porter and Bald arrive, the Englishman has disappeared, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.

Rebels are threatening to take over the country and its diamond mines - and to massacre all foreigners. Porter and Bald find themselves fighting shoulder to shoulder with the Regiment psychopath, who is already embedded in the country. But it soon becomes clear that the Firm has lied to them about the true nature of the mission.

What seems at first to be a battle to control Sierra Leone's diamond mines will turn out to be about a much greater evil - and with a trail that leads back to both Westminster and the Kremlin.

Just so condescending.

I couldn't get past the condescension. In parts it was just insulting to your intelligence and it really was a deal breaker for me. Performance was excellent.

Not his best book

I've listened to all his stories as well as Andy mcnabs. This story carries on from his last novel but is just lacking in places. However I may just be spoiled as his other works are brilliant. So even if this is your first. Listen to the ready to make your own mind up.

Brutal

More brutal than your normal war fiction maybe not for everyone but it is a good read.

Good narration, rubbish story

Compared to the Danny Black series, this is pretty horrendous - the main protagonist is a whiny bloke who basically doesn't have his act together at all and stumbles around from one scene to another, complaining and moaning. Come back Danny Black please for gods sake!

Not as good as other Chris Ryans but still good.

Story was a little slow in places and some of the descriptions were a little lazy, also prefer Michael Fenner as a narrator but still worthy of a listen. 👍🏻

Brilliant and dark edge of seat stuff!

From first to last this was amazing. More twists and turns than a race track

well narrated.

overall, if you're into military fiction it's a good listen however there are some irregularities in the story line where things dont add up, give it a listen and see if you can spot them.

Acceptable

Entertaining and believable story. Tactical and situational awareness is described well however the thriller and character side of the story is lacking. Several words from the narrator sounded the same even though it was in different characters accents/tone.

Not a true Chris Ryan exciting book

This seems a little off from the previous authors books. just not the idea of a believable story, though it had it moments of Ryan's former excitement.
