About this listen
When Gunnar Long is transported into the first fully-immersive virtual MMORPG, he finds himself in a new world filled with magic, mystery, and adventure.
No more 9-to-5 job. No more studio apartment. No more reality TV.
Finally, he's in a place where he can call home, a place with people he can call friends.
But as more people want to trade their real world lives to get inside Eden's Gate, the government of the outside world wants the "game" shut down at all costs.
Gunnar must learn to survive, grow in power, and find a way to send a message back to his old home.
"We're fine. We're alive. Eden's Gate is real."
Eden's Gate is a LitRPG adventure.

The premise is of a stretch he’ll the US states I don’t think could agree on a total shut down let alone the world. And if you shut things down a lot of people would die in the hospitals etc. thief back up system would unlikely last for days as well as social breakdown

It was a time when readers were hungry for *any* litRPG, the best of that small bunch getting 5 stars by virtue of them being, well, the best of a small bunch, regardless of if they were actually good books. Anything half-decent is better than nothing, right?
Now though, the community of books is larger. And while I acknowledge the role this book played in being 'one of the first,' I unfortunately have to rank it against both the newer releases in the genre and also sci-fi / fantasy in general. It comes up short.
Did I finish it? Yes. It's a decent adventure, it has a cool world, ok progression system and standard-but-passable litRPG story. However it's also poorly edited, poorly narrated (the narrator speaks in a monotone for half the book, but does slowly get better), the plot is half baked, there are some ridiculous leaps of faith, the side character is inconsistent and the hero is, quite frankly, a jerk.
All things that I might have overlooked four years ago when there was nothing else like it to read, but not things I'm willing to overlook now. Its only by virtue of it being relatively short that I pushed through instead of asking for a refund. 3.5 stars
Mediocre LitRPG
