Publisher's Summary

Maulkin didn't know dying would mean a new eternity of dungeon delving, monster slaying, and glory hunting. If he had, he wouldn't have been so worried about kicking the bucket on a date gone even more wrong than usual.

Reborn in the wild world of Amaranth, Maulkin finds himself in a hulking demi-human body with a sword of a size to match. Marked as an Eternal, a fledging immortal of boundless potential, Maulkin soon discovers he's been given a mission by the elder pantheon of this new realm:

Grow stronger. Ascend to godhood. Spread chaos in their name.

Oh and fend off that inbound apocalypse, if he can find the time.

Who wants an easy afterlife anyway?

An excellent book

This is a excellent book with plenty of humour as well as blood guts and glory. The characters are fun, diverse and well rounded. Luke dose a great job with the voices as always. Overall 15/15

Exceptional litRPG

This was an absolute gem of a listen, as long as you don't want to think too hard. Savage dominion is heavy on the action and dumb-MC-for-laughs but within this very specific story type, it's near perfect. And, it's narrated brilliantly.

Without giving too much away, Savage Dominion revolves around the adventures of an ordinary idiot who is transported to a new world in the afterlife. He’s tasked by the gods with bringing order to the chaos that exists within it.

One of the things that I particularly enjoyed about this novel was the amazing voice work by Luke Daniels. I’ve listened to a bunch of his stuff before, but I’ve never heard the range or enthusiasm that he puts into each character here, making them sound absolutely unique. It’s marvellous and at the same level of quality as the ever amazing Jeff Hayes, for those Dungeon Crawler Carl fans here.

The book was also surprisingly full of humour. Don't get me wrong, it’s still very much an action novel, but there were a fair few laughs scattered through it, particularly when describing the sheer gung-ho stupidity of the main character. As a minor side note: this was also my one complaint about the novel. The character's personality before he died was written as your typical nerd with no hint of this. Then suddenly he’s transported to another world and becomes a bastion of stupidity, 100% committed to action before thought in every single situation. There was a level of dissonance in the two ideas that I struggled to combine.'

Fight scenes are written well, and there are plenty of them. Characterization for each of the two secondary characters and one primary character are unique and aided in no small part by excellent voice work. I don’t often enjoy 'party' novels as opposed to loner situations, but here it worked, with each character adding to the mix of magic that would eventually become the finished novel.

World building was on point - the world itself was interesting, and the magic systems were reasonable although I felt that they didn’t have a lot of depth. Perhaps this will come in future novels. To be honest the main character's skills and magics were all a little boring because they were heavily melee focused, but to give credit where it's due they were fantastically utilised and often in unique ways.

Overall, this is an excellent addition to the litRPG scene. It's not rocket science but doesn't pretend to be, either. As long as you enter prepared for copious fight scenes and very low brow humor, you'll enjoy the listen.

Ok but fairly boring

The book was ok. Unfortunately the story line is very thin as the story goes from one battle scene to the next. If all you want is battle descriptions and the one joke told over and over again then this is the book for you.
There are much better litrpg audiobooks out there.

Too much chance not enough agency.

A very convenient yellow brick road story with the party dynamic being contrived. The freedom and ability to try new things is constrained by the cast with specialization being the reason. Two pieces of the muguffin are found right away and the mc is already diverging from the ruleset layed out based because he is the mc.... the chaos and order rippling out is kinda pointless and unimportant as no stakes were built up around it. The leveling system us basically a forced conflict roulette.
