About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Discover the perfect summer listen from the bestselling author of We All Want Impossible Things.

One week at golden Cape Cod. The perfect family holiday. What could possibly go wrong?

For the past two decades, Rocky has looked forward to her family’s yearly escape to the beach.

The humble, quirky house they rent has been the site of sweet memories, sunny days, shared mishaps and memories. It is a place where her family comes together and Rocky wants to cling to every moment.

Now, sandwiched between her children who are adult enough to be fun but still young enough to need her, and her parents who are ageing but healthy enough, Rocky wants to preserve this precious moment for ever.

But with her body in open revolt and surprises invading her peaceful haven, the seesaw of Rocky’s life is tipping towards change…

Sandwich is joy in book form. I laughed continuously, except for the parts that made me cry.’ Ann Patchett, bestselling author of Tom Lake

Good insights into family relationships

I liked this book for its exploration of the changing nature of parent/child and long term partner relationships and menopause. However I found the observations about menopause overly bleak but that may be because I’ve come out the other side of it. It was also a bit too sentimental for me but I think die hard Ann Patchett fans will love it.

Beautiful and relatable

Laugh out loud funny and poignant. Such a beautifully written book. Stunning in how it encapsulates the BIG feelings of both parenthood, family and grief

A must listen for all menopausal women out there

Loved this book. Laughed and Cried.
The story is witty and so so true, in so so many ways, I feel I could have been the author (if I could write!) - heartwarming and recommended

Heart-swelling

A beautiful, heartbreaking, hilarious account of motherhood & womanhood. Rocky and her husband Nick have been renting the same cottage for their family's summer vacations for 20 years. Sandwich follows 3 generations over the week long vacation.

Delightful

I was worried this would be middle aged chick lit, but it was actually rather lovely.
Interesting well developed characters, cozy family vibes and not too much schmalz.
Great narration too.

Just brilliant.

I really enjoyed this book and the quiet but strong story of a woman’s life and love of her family.

Sorry but very boring

Mundane everyday life but for someone else’s family in excruciating detail. I’m sorry but not a fan.
