About this listen

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews comes a novella featuring Roman, our favorite Volhv wizard in the always intriguing, colorful, volatile Kate Daniels world.

It’s not easy serving Chernobog, the God of Destruction, Darkness and Death…especially during the holidays; and especially when you’re out of eggnog and one of your pesky, freeloading mythic creatures has eaten your last cookie.

Roman would like nothing more than to be left alone, but when a wounded boy stumbles into his yard and begs for sanctuary, Roman takes him in. Now elite mercenaries are camped out on his property, combat mages are dousing the house with fire, and strange priests are unleashing arcane magic. They thought Roman was easy pickings, just a hermit in the woods, but they chose the wrong dark priest to annoy. For while Roman might be patient, he is the Black Volhv, filled with the love of his terrible god. For his adversaries, it's a fight to the death, but for him, it's just another day in the neighborhood.

I love stories about anti heroes doing good .I liked Romans character in the other books, this wasn’t quite what I hoped, like Hugh D’Ambray’s book which was fantastic. This book was ok and enjoyed it, just not quite as good as other stories about the other characters in their Magic series.

Not quite as good as I hoped

Ok, it's not a sexy book, but the writing of Roman, is actually sexy. thanks Ilona and Andrew.
I did enjoy the motley crew of Slavic imps, the iron dog and the morality Roman brings to the dire story an, of course the puppy. The boy was just meh... that may have been the intention.
Perhaps the story felt a bit muddled. Perhaps the book should have been longer to allow a less rushed feeling.
Perhaps I'm peeved it was too short an offering on the KD world altar. I'll listen to it again. Will it be my go to listen? probably not (even if Chris Brinkley's curled my toes.)

Such a sexy protagonist, such a sexy narrator.

Great side story with one of the more colourful but dark characters from The Magic Series re Kate Daniels.
Personally I prefer narrator Renae Raudman's versions but the writing is fantastic.

Another magic read from Ilona Andrews

It was… OK. Which is not what we have come to expect from this couple. I don’t mind the stand alones, Iron and Magic was great - it was clever and funny, with interesting characters that fed off each other (in a good way). Unfortunately, Sanctuary didn’t have any of that.

Far from their best

Boring. Flat. That is not what I have come to expect from Ilona Andrews. It was like they don't want to be writing anymore.

Worst Ilona Andrews writing.
