About this listen

Star Force pilot and hero Wyatt McCoy left his medals and career behind after the Rim Wars, disillusioned and bitter when he learns the truths behind the conflict. He takes his converted gunship, the Nellie B, and heads to the Near Fringe, salvaging derelict ships and abandoned stations and mining colonies.

Dr. Beth Parker is a space archaeologist, documenting the history of planetary expansion and colonization for Kalok Enterprises and the Interplanetary Mining Guild. A piece of alien technology embeds itself in Beth's arm, giving her the ability to see the energy impressions of long-ago people and events. When Beth uncovers proof of genocide that could bring down the big mining companies, she's the target of assassins.

Wyatt makes a split-second decision to intervene, launching them both into a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game with some of the most powerful organizations in the system. They can prove Kalok and Interplan killed millions - but can they live long enough to tell their story?

This is a fast-moving story, that is thoroughly enjoyable. The narrator did a terrific job and really worked well to make the character's voices distinguishable.

The story spans a lot of locations and is fast-moving and well thought out.

I hope there will be more in the series or at least the setting that Mr Martin has created.

A Ripping Yarn!

The "characters are caught by surprise and captured, losing their ship" plot gets pretty old after the 3rd time in a row. Surely after the second time in as many encounters, the characters would think to look around.

The author could stand to learn more than one plot point

The concept was good but didn't seem to reach any heights. Good enough if you're into the space privateer sub-genre but didn't really offer anything beyond similar stories. Could almost have been a Han Solo sub-story from the Star Wars universe.
The narrator had that incredibly annoying way of reading the story in a half-angry, overly dramatic style that doesn't suit 90% of storyline.
Won't be bothering with any following books.

Just another space jock story

An indestructible hero. Bad guy shooters all graduates from the star wars Storm Trooper school of marksmanship. Contradictions between the sophistication of the tech of the good guys and the bad guys. All break the plot spell and lead to a bit of frustration.
Characters believable.
General plot good.
Narrator solid but not great.
A good listen for a younger audience. I finished it whilst getting the chores done. I won't be looking for other titles from the same author or narrator.

Lots of plot weaknesses. A simple "Space Western".
