Critic Reviews

"Written at breakneck pace, complete with extensive firefights and brutal weaponry, this is a heart-stopper for anyone who likes plenty of action and explosions." (Daily Mail)

Go Away Now Drake

Experienced intelligence operative neglects safety and common sense to meet an unknown contact in a war zone, then risks the lives of his colleagues to help a woman who abandoned and left him for dead. Because even strong, resourceful military men become reckless simps at the sight of a pretty face I guess. #u*% $ff book.

Great, but....

Solid story and characters, but for God's sake of you're going to use firearms in your story at least get the terminology and calibres right. It's a minor gripe, but seriously... A P90 submachinegun does not use 9mm ammunition, and stop calling an AK-47 an "AK-47 assault rifle". Other than that everything else is on point.

It’s fine, keeps my interest, but find myself getting frustrated w the story

So, I am invested in the stories, like the characters well enough. Sometimes it gets a little bogged down in certain details, but it is artfully written and doesn’t turn me off the way that sometimes does Mostly I find myself getting frustrated w the story. I just get tired of the repeated plot line of corruption inside, protagonists hunted and betrayed by their own. I don’t know why that story line irritates me so much, but it does. And I like Drake, I do- but he seems to do a lot of stupid things. Charges ahead -knowing what he’s up against and yet somehow oblivious that those entities have the resources and influence to completely crush and out maneuver him. Not saying he shouldn’t, but he has a team of only 2 other people and doesn’t seem to strategize accordingly. He seems to think he can follow his investigations w no repercussions or any interference, even though he KNOWS other people have been killed (along w others) for pursuing the same information. Takes no precautions on that front, marches forward oblivious to the risks as if his adversaries have no power to hurt him. As such he repeatedly puts other people in danger. I frequently think “what the F** are you doing ! /What is wrong w you! “ It seems to take them forever to put certain pieces together and I find myself pounding the steering wheel shouting “wake up you IDIOT!!!!” He does figure things out, but it is often too late . So the book ends up being mostly a story of failures. Which is annoying w a genre that I listen to for its “hero” and “good guys win against bad guys” qualities. So I keep listening bc I think the books themselves are good, interesting, well written , but I get annoyed a lot.

Still Impressed

Reading book 2 right behind book 1 and still impressed with the writing and presentation. Of course it is fiction, but just believable enough to leave a question behind. I cannot wait to get into book 3 in the series

Outstanding.

My experience listening to this book was, let's say, a wind blown wild ride that I didn't want to end.
