Ostensibly human, Adam Vex has opened the SOS Hotel as a sanctuary for the lost ones, those persecuted supernatural beings who have been stuck on the mortal plane since the Rift closed. His business partner is the flamboyant Zodiac, an ex-pornstar incubus demon, who flirts outrageously with anyone and everyone so Adam doesn’t take it personally. In the first few days the hotel is open, people go missing and it’s clear that someone is trying to force its closure. Adam thinks he knows slime ball is behind it and with the help of permanent guest Vampire Lord Reynard, Adam seeks to set things right.

This enjoyable first instalment was a lot of fun. It’s witty and very humorous but pretty short (174 pp, 4.5 audio hrs). I would have liked more but I guess things will progress over the series. It’s clear that Adam has feelings for Zodiac and maybe for Lord Reynard, so that will be a love triangle to watch. The author also teases us with Adam’s supernatural identity, and that mystery will also drive the overarching story arc. The only downside was the ease with which Adam solved his problems—it wasn’t substantial enough. I guess that’s a product of the light and breezy tone and the short number of pages. 🎧 US voice actor Michael Leslie is the real star of the show here. He has a very versatile and amusing voice and he delivers all the lines with such entertaining gusto. Can’t wait for more!
