About this listen

In this essential Star Wars Legends novel, discover the legacy of Rogue Squadron and its fabled pilots, who became a symbol of hope throughout the galaxy.

They are sleek, swift, and deadly. They are the X-wing fighters. And as the struggle rages across the vastness of space, the fearless men and women who pilot them risk both their lives and their machines. Their mission: to defend the Rebel Alliance against a still-powerful and battle-hardened Imperial foe in a last-ditch effort to control the stars!

Its very name strikes fear into enemy hearts. So when Rebel hero Wedge Antilles rebuilds the legendary Rogue Squadron, he seeks out only the best—the most skilled and most daring X-wing pilots. Through arduous training and dangerous missions, he weeds out the weak from the strong, assembling a group of hard-bitten warriors willing to fight, ready to die. Antilles knows the grim truth: Even with the best X-wing jockeys in the galaxy, many will not survive their near-suicidal missions. But when Rogue Squadron is ordered to assist in the assault on the heavily fortified Imperial stronghold of Blackmoon, even the bravest must wonder if any at all will survive. . .

Brilliant setup to this amazing part of the Star Wars universe. It has action, love, intrigue, suspense, etc. It explores galactic war, planetary strategy, numerous species, personal conflicts, power struggles and a rising republic v a declining empire. Everything you want from a non-Jedi focused Star Wars story, and sets up the next 4 books perfectly 😉. Can’t wait for Wedge’s Gamble in April!!!

The story has everything!!!

Absolutely loved hearing this classic Star Wars story for the first time, the voices were fantastic and I finished it in days. excellent performance by Marc Thompson.

the only downside is that Book 2 doesn't come out until April :'( I'll be waiting!

this "optional" heading is apparently required

good book, my only draw back to this book and that when they speak inner monologues, they drop the volume to much, needing to turn up the volume, then the rest of the story is too loud at points.

enjoyable

So happy they finally did this
X-Wing is the ultimate Star Wars novel series, nothing has ever come close
I hope all 8 books get this treatment

Everything about this was done so well, can’t wait for book 2!!!

If you read the books back when they came out, or you've never read any Star Wars books but just love Star Wars, then this is a no brainer. If you just like Sci-fi in general, then there are probably stronger stories and authors nowadays you could read, but you may still get a kick out of the audio production of Rogue Squadron.

The story itself is a bit cheesy and formulaic at times, but still has some nice twists and turns, and overall is still a great story. The characters are mostly quite strong, and mostly unique, and create that feel-good camaraderie of a swashbuckling pirate adventure. Without the IP, it would be a 3.5 that I'd have been happy to have paid for and read.

As a Star Wars novel that I enjoyed when it first came out - this is the best thing I can ever imagine in my ears on my commute. To be clear, it has full sound effects and music - droids, lasers, starship engine background noise... all signature Star Wars audio. It is super nostalgic, and feels 100% like Star Wars, even if the references to the original trilogy can be a bit gratuitous at times. Marc Thompson's performance is, as always, impeccable! Are there awards for audiobook performances yet...?

If you've read this far, just buy it and listen. There is no better escapism. May the force of my review convince you.

If you're even here thinking about it, get it.
