Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Rising Strong, written and read by Brené Brown.

The physics of vulnerability is simple: if we are brave enough often enough, we will fall. This is a book about what it takes to get back up and how owning our stories of disappointment, failure and heartbreak gives us the power to write a daring new ending. Struggle can be our greatest call to courage and Rising Strong our clearest path to deeper meaning, wisdom and hope.

Vocal fry

The content is amazing. Brené Brown is an incredible researcher, writer, and story teller.

But the entire book is ruined by the narrator using vocal fry to lower her voice, making it sound like her vocal cords will break at any moment.

Please use women to perform narratives in their normal voices 🙏

Brimming with first world problems

I listened to this with an open mind. I’d never read any of Brown’s books but was keen to learn what all the ‘buzz’ was about.
Unfortunately, this never hit the mark for me. By the end, I still didn’t have a clear understanding of what the rising strong process involves. I get the ‘face down in the arena’ bit, but I was left thinking that perhaps Brown doesn’t really understand adversity.
The anecdotes that were meant to serve as examples served only as a catalyst for some major eyerolling and the cry ‘meanwhile, some people have real problems!’
The examples included:
Arguing with your husband
Having a messy roommate (for one night!)
Someone sending you a passive aggressive email.
So hard to listen to when you’ve experienced real pain and the need to get up and face the world day after day despite it.

Didn’t get it

I think I need to re-read ... just didn’t understand the detail in Rising Strong. The premise was fine, the anecdotes and stories interesting but the rumble and other parts of the process did not make sense to me.

Rising Strong - Highly Recommend

Absolutely excellent! This books taught me so much! I’m excited about going to the vulnerable places and engaging people in the rumble ... in a way that we both learn. Thank you!

Wholehearted

I’ve been a fan of Brene Browns work since I read Daring Greatly, probably around the time it came out. I picked up the kindle version of Rising Strong also the year it came out but didn’t connect with it at first. Now, 2.5 years later hearing her read the book to me I feel so inspired and hopeful from learning what I have. I’ve learnt so much and was already going through this process with my counsellor, I just didn’t see all the steps like this and this understanding will be so helpful. Thank you for doing the work you’re doing, it’s so wholesome and life changing.

A book with great insight to emotions

I have been lately working on managing my responses in difficult times and Rising strong has given me a great insight to it. This book had been by far the best book I have read. It's my first book written by Brene Brown and I can't wait to explore the other books she has written down. Truly vulnerable in expressing her own emotions allowed me to understand that we all run sweat and are covered with dust in the arena, when we r knocked down. We all should be confident to rise up and face the battle . Thanks to Dr. Brene Brown not only for the courage to write a book on shame and Vulnerability but also for narrating it in her own voice, which made the audible truly authentic. Thanks again!

Truth of life

This book, Rising Strong to me is nothing but Spiritual! It feels like the Bible stories brought home to real human experience. I saw my past and present while listening to this book. I am inspired to actively show up in writing the future I want for myself.
Thanks to Dr Brene' Brown for this outstanding work.

Confused thinking.

I'm her effort to make this accessible, she tells a confused personal story, citing two friends as data and 2 years as an era. This is a cash grab by a very smart professional.

Learn to ride the wave

Brown reads so well and her voice is so lovely to listen to. The book is a good kick in the butt in times when we feel defeated and tired and don´t know how to go on. She encourages us to rise and remember our strengths. The book has helped me during a very difficult time and I am sure I will keep coming back to its wisdom and humour.

Highly recommend

Brené Brown is a joy to read and to listen to. I had to keep pausing to create bookmarks with notes. Her work and research are fascinating and can be implemented straight away in so many aspects of life. very useful for me as a parent, a creative writing teacher, and someone working in mental health.
