Publisher's Summary

A high-speed race to the death. A mission gone horribly wrong.

With a billionaire benefactor backing him, Flint Reed heads off on his first mission to secure rare artifacts spread throughout the quadrant. Aided by a cagey assassin, his snarky AI, and a loving attack dog, Flint is poised for success.

But when a powerful rival organization attempts to kill him, Flint must make split-second decisions to save his team’s lives and protect the public. The pressure mounts as he is confronted with a nefarious syndicate hit man who holds the key to a trove of ancient and powerful artifacts.

The only problem? The treasures are rumored to be guarded by ancient beings of extraordinary power. But they've never met Flint Reed - and he's got a job to do.

Pick up where Resonant Son left off on another white-knuckle adrenaline-fueled adventure. If you're a fan of Renegade Star, Escape from New York, Firefly, or Cowboy Bebop, you'll love this epic sci-fi thriller.

Better than the first!

I really enjoyed this one. Actually, more than the first, which is surprising. Both of these were great stories. I came into Resonant Son after listening to Hopper and Chaney's Ruins of the Galaxy series, which is REALLY good (waiting on book 3 now). If you like scifi and want something different, Resonant Son and Abyss are where it's at. I also recommend Chaney's Renegade Star series, which is in the same universe as this one. So good!

First book was ok but not great . . . This book not worth the credit . . . 😱

Some good moments soured by unbelievable plot twists and illogical character behavior. Seems rushed at the end which is where it falls apart. There are better reads and listens out there. Too many of these authors seem satisfied to churn out passable yarns without respecting the noble craft of future history as practiced by the masters of old and the craftsman of today. Paid by the word, I guess . . . 😱 ———————————————————————————————————————— 5 stars is great (I rarely give this rating). 4 stars is good (given only to interesting and well-written books). 3 stars is OK (the usual listen I encounter on Audible). 2 stars is poor (and not worth the credit or the listen). 1 star is awful (and to be diss'ed and shunned and spread as thus through out the Audible Universe)! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 😱

can't get enough of these guys

Chaney and Hopper are two of my favorite authors, along with Jason Anspach. They really deliver the goods!

A Letdown

After enjoying Book 1, I was looking forward to more of the same with this book but, regrettably, I ended up disappointed. The plot seemed good at the start but eventually descended into lengthy escape scenes taking up more than 6 chapters and the Jeeves-like AI's clueless schtick wore thin after almost every interchange between Flint and him required uninteresting back and forth meaningless banter over some idiom the AI was unaware of. These exchanges added to the word count but slowed the pace of the story to frustrating levels. If that wasn't bad enough, the continued references to alien probes and butt jokes wore off being funny after the first reference; only to be resurrected numerous times during the story. The point where I almost stopped listening was when Flint decided to remove his protective face mask in a mine before the airlock was re-oxygenated, I mean, this is the future and everyone knows the importance of not exposing oneself to this kind of danger. Everyone except Flint, apparently. As I mentioned, the story elements lent themselves to creating a entertaining and interesting story but much of that potential was wasted with irritating, non-essential antics. Mark Boyett's performance was good but was hampered by the writing shortcomings.
