Publisher's Summary

Val Darrant was just four years old the snowy night his mother abandoned him. But instead of meeting a lonely death, he met Will Reilly - a gentleman, a gambler, and a worldly, self-taught scholar. For 10 years they each were all the family the other had, traveling from dusty American boomtowns to the glittering cities of Belle Époque Europe - until the day Reilly’s luck ran out in a roar of gunfire.

But it wasn’t a gambling brawl or a pack of thieves that sealed Will’s fate. It was a far more complex story that Val would soon uncover - one that would bring him face-to-face with the one person he least wants to see: his mother. With the help of a beautiful, street-smart rancher and the woman who was Will Reilly’s lost love, Val must close this last cruel chapter of his past before he can turn the page on an uncertain future.

Another Great Read By Louis L'Amour

This is a touching story about a man alone who raises a boy nobody wants, and taught him to be a man. An honest gambler, he and the boy travel in many countries, but it's the west they love.

The narrator gave a good performance.

A must read for L'Amour fans, or great as a first read for those unfamiliar with his stories.

One of my favorite stories

Would you consider the audio edition of Reilly's Luck to be better than the print version?

Not sure -- haven't read in print, but this audio version is truly engaging.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course it's Reilly -- to take responsibility for a young child and do an excellent job of parenting is outstanding.

Have you listened to any of Beau Bridges’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He is great in this one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Figuring how to nurse Tensleep thru an injury -- engaging and easy to empathize.

Any additional comments?

I am a L'Amour fan. This one stands out in a strong field -- great character development and story line.

LaMour at his best

Would you listen to Reilly's Luck again? Why?

Yes, this book has surprizes in each turn and you see it clearer there you hear it.

What did you like best about this story?

Reilly's life becomes devoted to teaching the boy and nothing gets in the way of that devotion.

What does Beau Bridges bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A rough and brisc voice of believability.

Glad this book is finally here!

I grew up reading books of Louis L'Amour. I have read this book 20 plus times. So when I saw it was available on audible, I jumped on it. Then to have Bridges narrate it, it was perfect. I just hope they keep making more of his books available, next I am waiting on is Flint!

A Real Joy

This story of a small boy rescued, raised, and formed in character by a gambler--who himself presents a splendid and engaging hero--is Louis L'Amour at his best. A fine moral and complicated plot, in which both Will Reilly and the young boy who becomes a man, proceeds with action, tension, betrayal, empathy, and heart. Great narration. Really just loved it all.

Terrible performance

Honestly the narrator’s performance was terrible. He was monotone the whole time, he was just reading the words, not any performance to it at all really. Good story though.

Classic Louis L'Amour

Love Louis L'Amour! Excellent story and told very well! One of my greatest joys is to listen to a well told story of the West.
