Story
In Mitochondria and the Future of Medicine, naturopathic doctor Lee Know tells the epic story of mitochondria - the widely misunderstood and often-overlooked powerhouses of our cells. The legendary saga began over two billion years ago, when one bacterium entered another without being digested, which would evolve to create the first mitochondrion. Since then, for life to exist beyond single-celled bacteria, it's the mitochondria that have been responsible for this life-giving energy.

Instead, Dr. Cowan tells us the somatic mutations seen in cancer cells are the result of a cellular deterioration that has little to do with oncogenes, DNA, or even the nucleus.

Publisher's Summary
Modern medicine and human health are at a critical crossroads, and the truth is that you and not your genes are in the driver's seat. You are the one who gets to make informed decisions on how you use and nourish the evolutionary miracle that is your body.
Combining analysis of cutting-edge scientific findings with our deepest ancestral wisdom and health-promoting practices, Sayer Ji, founder of GreenMedInfo, offers a time-tested program to help prevent and manage the most common health afflictions of our day-cancer, heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases, and metabolic syndrome.
Antiquated thinking and scientific dogma have long obstructed our understanding of our innate untapped potential for self-regeneration and radical healing. But the new biology explains why biological time is not a downward spiral and how chronic illness is not inevitable when you implement nature's resiliency tools.
In his thorough and thoughtful exploration of the new biology, Sayer Ji illuminates:
- The fascinating new science of food as information
- The truth about cancer and heart disease screening and what real prevention looks like
- How to reverse the most common forms of degeneration using food-based approaches
- How the body extracts energy from sources other than food, including water and melanin; and
- How to make sense of conflicting dietary recommendations and out-of-date food philosophies
Encoded within every tissue of your body is your ability to regenerate. Unlock your radical resiliency through this road map for diet, exercise, stress reduction, and the cultivation of the environment in which you choose to live.

Pseudoscience
Pseudoscientific rubbish. First an attack on dairy and wheat products. The author can’t digest dairy so therefore everyone should avoid it, right? Goes on to compare death statistics from 1900 to today to back up his point. One problem, wheat and dairy were part of the western diet in the 1900’s. Then we have some rubbish about structured water which has not been backed up by peer-reviewed science. Then something about chlorophyll protecting the skin from UV damage? No human peer-reviewed literature here either. Then we have “melanin” in mushrooms having a protective effect, only rodent research is cited. Currently at the “earthing” part.. I don’t know how much more I can take.. It should be mandatory to clearly back up outlandish health claims in the accompanying PDF but we are out of luck here.

Essential manual for Mind, Body & Spirit health
Having switched to a more naturopathic practice of health, wellness and medicine over the years, I've run into many different systems of study. This basically takes all those systems; Ayurvedic, Chinese medicine, Yoga/Meditation and many other incredibly fascinating documented revelations in today's Science about how the human genome (epigenetics) and microbiome work in order to dynamically generate good physical/mental and spiritual health. Incredible facts like how mammals have been shown to be able to create cellular ATP energy through ingestion chlorophyll and exposure to sunlight really give credence to a lot of Ancient wisdom (especially in Egyptian cultures) where they had a special reverence and deep appreciation for our sun. Sawyer uncovers many other great nuggets of information as well over the course of this book. I took his online course and was really impressed. I usually never take those cheesey online based courses from self proclaimed health gurus, but based on the little bit I heard through the preview videos I knew that this guy was incredibly legit.

Why use 10 words when 200 will do?
The ability to explain a complex subject in a clear and concise manner is something that is NOT a part of this book's profile. The subject matter is extremely useful and important. However, the author goes out of his way to use as much scientific jargon as is possible. It is spoilt by the verbosity and excessive use of unecessary scientific jargon.
