Story
There is a new revolution happening in sports as more and more athletes are basing their success on this game-changing combination: health, nutrition, training, recovery, and mindset. Unfortunately, the evidence-based techniques that the expert PhDs, academic institutions, and professional performance staffs follow can be in stark contrast to what many athletes actually practice. When combined with the noise of social media, old-school traditions, and bro-science, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.

Publisher's Summary
Recovering from Training is the ultimate guide to the theory and practice of recovery from training. It describes the multiple causes, correlates, and consequences of fatigue, and also gives real-world recommendations on how to manage and reduce it for best health, fitness, and physique results.
This audiobook is for lay persons interested in fitness, athletes, coaches, hobbyists, and sport scientists alike. It leans heavily on peer-reviewed science and explains the physiology of fatigue and recovery in great depth. While based on scientific data, it is made to be easily digested by nonscientists. Attention is also paid to outlining practical application that listeners can easily incorporate into recovery strategies for themselves or their athletes.
Recovering from Training will allow the dedicated athlete and coach to plan out training, diet, and recovery strategies for optimal results. If you can recover better, you can train more, train harder, and make better gains over time. Peaking and tapering strategies are included so competitive athletes can make sure to recover on time for competitions.
Even if you’re just interested in the theoretical underpinnings of recovery processes, this audiobook is very unlikely to disappoint. Lastly, because peer-reviewed journal articles are referenced, you can use this audiobook as a starting point to further your exploration of any of the recovery concepts discussed within.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Recovery questions? This is your last stop.
I cannot begin to describe how valuable this book is. Any questions you have about some rinky dink recovery tool will be answered. More importantly the way you program for yourself and clients will hopefully change for the better. SPOILER. Every activity comes at a price, choose what's most valuable to you and focus on being happy! Dr. James has a great voice for this, maintains a professional tone and lightens the mood every few lines. Fantastic book, I will be listening once more.

Straight talk from really smart people
When you’re an athlete, the market for recovery products is insanely saturated. Bands, rollers, supplements, compression, heat, cold, electrical stimulation, massage...the list goes on and on.
So when it comes down to it, what actually matters?
This book gave me straight answers about how recovery affects my training and how my life affects my recovery. It even prioritizes the most important and effective strategies to implement.
I love the straight talk from scientists who know their stuff, rely on evidence, and aren’t selling you a damn thing other than their book.
Athletes who put time, energy and money into their training will find this book well worth their time and money we well.

Fundamental reading for any aspiring Athlete.
As a non-professional in the fitness community who was interested in lifting, playing rugby, and moderate distance running, I spent years bouncing back and forth between free online Bro science and fitness influencers. Credible websites offered insightful articles, but I was missing a knowledge foundation from which to grow from. Renaissance Periodization has been my first step into truly understanding scientific methods to approach athleticism.
I’ve been listening to them and reading free information they post online for the last two years, and Recovering from Training only expounds on the ideas already put forward in interviews and informational articles. It heightens their credibility and provides new insights to further fresh out the ins and outs of training recovery. Dr. Hoffman orates splendidly and never allows his inflections to dip with recurring information or dry sections of reading. 5 Stars on everything (no narrative to speak of for “story” but a 5 Star book all around.)

The Best
Finally some intelligent and science based authors. This is how books on training SHOULD be. This is the kind of book you could read multiple times and get tons out of each time. It's packed with actual science based information and goes into detail on the mechanisms of the recommendations. Please Hoffmann, Israetel and Davis, put your other books on Audible! This book puts other books in the genre to shame. If you're looking to actually learn something useful GET THIS BOOK!!!

A must have for your training library
A largely overlooked and under appreciated area of training with many complex systems at play. James’s narration is brilliant and well paced. This book does exceptionally well to cover as much ground as it does in such detail without overly labouring the take home information. Definitely a multi-listen to get the most out of it. Highly recommended.
