Publisher's Summary

An inescapable city. Three deadly trials. One way out.

Lune Tatum, adopted daughter of the Supreme Elite, has lived within her father's walled city for 11 years.

But she wants out.

Except she can't leave, and not because of the clans and mutated beasts that roam beyond the impenetrable, electrified walls protecting her life. Her plan has always been to win the Elite Trials and earn Title of Choice - her only chance at freedom. And the only way to return home to her mother.

Then a boy from her past arrives on her 18th birthday. His presence threatens Lune's carefully laid plans and exposes memories she's desperate to forget. He can't be trusted. Especially as he possesses dangerous secrets. And what he reveals could ruin the chance at freedom she's willing to die for.

Story was ok, not sure about the narrator

There are so many good reviews about this book and series in good reads, but I just didn’t feel it. And I can’t help but winner if that was because of the narrator. Her voice tips up at the end of many sentences when it should go lower, and the tone just didn’t match the character and story. I’m sure others would love the narration, and I have also listened to Em Eldridge in other books and enjoyed her narration, but it just didn’t work in this story. The story itself was good but I did find myself annoyed at the way her mind speak came across, particularly when she questioned the intent of everything Bren did, when it seemed clear he was trying to help. No doubt the are many that love this series but it wasn’t for me.
