Publisher's Summary

The first standalone novel in The Pucked Series

With a famous NHL player for a stepbrother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation of many a hockey star. So of course she isn't interested in legendary team captain Alex Waters or his pretty, beat-up face and rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet's misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes much more than just a hot body with the face to match. Suffering from a complete lapse in judgment, Violet discovers just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants.

Violet believes her night of orgasmic magic with Alex is just that: one night. But Alex starts to call. And text. And email and send extravagant - and quirky - gifts. Suddenly he's too difficult to ignore and nearly impossible not to like. The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn't want to be part of the game.

Great female narrator, terrible male narrator

An entertaining story that would have improved if they had just stuck with the female narrator, who perfectly portrayed guys & gals. The make narrator’s accent was bizarre (definitely not Canadian, & had a nasal, teenage quality)

Compelling, hilarious, laugh out loud masterpiece.

Do you love rom coms? Sporting romances?

At first, I was dubious since I love hockey and this was about a hockey romance but damn did Helena pull it off brilliantly.

We meet Violet, an independent and sassy woman. From the first page you fall in love with her, she's absolutely hilarious with all of her shenanigans.

Violet meets captain of her brother's hockey team, Alex. A man with a reputation, one he is happy to have for the sake of his career but one he wants to hide from Violet. He's completely enraptured by her.

He's never met anyone like her but...when you're a superstar hockey player, any kind of relationship is going to have its ups and downs.

Will Alex and Violet make it work?

Compelling, hilarious, laugh out loud masterpiece.

Audiobook voice actors are amazing!!!

Meh

Female narrator did a great job. Male narrator was a let down. The story wasn't the best, felt like a waste of a credit.

Male narrator was a let down

The female narrator was good, however the male narrator had an Irish accent and didn’t fit the bill for the hot-as-hell Canadian. I read the book and enjoyed it, but couldn’t listen to the audio book.

love love

Violet and her over sharing, nonchalant and just somewhat blasé look at things about dating an ice hockey player again is the best thing, but of course life intervening in the form of Alex and his nerdy-jock ways had my wires crossed the best way. They fumbled through the romance, being on the spot light dynamics and if that locker room sex doesn't thaw the heart don't know what it, plus Alex's dick graduates from being called a 'sniffie' to 'monster cock' who stars in dreams wearing a cape with a moustache. Violet's playfulness just makes every dork out there proud. own it.

Love this book! Hilarious, hot, and hockey!

I absolutely loved this audiobook. It was smoking hot and laugh out loud funny. My only issue was the male narrator. I would have preferred that Muffy Newtown narrated the entire book. Can't wait for book 2!

Narration

Before purchasing this book I read the reviews and thought that the male reader couldn't really be that terrible. WRONG! It was dreadful! If the reader makes or breaks a book for you think strongly before giving in to this. I loved the female reader and the story though.

Why can't we have separate reviews for each narrator?

This book was hysterically funny, with a quirky, awkward, real characters. The female narrator was fantastic. The male narrator was great when he was speaking like someone from the US. Otherwise, he sounded a cockney-Irish-Scottish guy pretending to be Canadian but sounding more confused than anything else. Usually, I look forward to a change in narrator when a new chapter starts. This is the first time I've actually groaned in defeat when the male character started a chapter. If it weren't for how incredibly talented the female narrator was, I would have returned the audiobook and instead read it on my kindle.

Great Story but what's with the accent

The characters were quirky and hilarious beginning to end but WTF with the "Canadian" accent. Irish, Scottish, Welsh. Not the sure what the hell that was. It might have passed for mangled maritime but sure as hell not Guelph. Get it right or don't bother.

Holy accent, Batman!

What was with the male narrator? He was supposed to be performing a Canadian accent, but sounded more like Scottish-British-Jersey boy. He made Alex seem creepy sometimes. Muffy should have narrated the whole book. Don’t let this turn you off from listening, because the story is beyond hilarious! Luckily, the male narrator doesn’t perform much at all.

Great story, horrible male narrator

I have been so excited for this book to make it to audible. It was not a disappointment!! Helena Hunting is a rockstar. I laughed out loud many times. The female narrator was fantastic. But the male narrator was horrific!! I mean, it had the potential to nearly ruin the book. I cringed the entire chapters that he read. It was seriously awful!!

Muffy was a hit

There's so much greatness and I'm typing from my phone so I can't list it all... I loved almost everything about this book... this author is a 1st for me but I am an instant fan... I laughed so hard....

This narration team is also a 1st for me and I must say I love Muffy! Nathan on the other hand sucked... his nasal voice was irritating. I've refunded books and/or couldn't finish them for bad narration like his BUT this book is so well written and Muffy narrates 95% of the book I dealt with Nathan's horrid narration.

This book made me laugh a lot! Violet is was snarky and hilarious. Alex was sexy and sweet! She was expecting a one night stand and he knew from the minute they met that he wanted her in his life. Their story was sweet and very sexy! It had its predictable moments with normal romance book drama but the drama wasn't the typical avoidable drama that most books have. The sexy scenes were off the charts hot! I can't wait for book 2 on audio! The narration was 50/50! She was great, her male and female voices were perfect and she really did the funny snarky comments perfectly. He on the other hand I didn't enjoy. His accent sounded more Irish than Canadian to me, with a few "Eh's" to remind you he was Canadian. He also didn't make him sound very manly, more high school teacher than hockey star.

Violet and Alex forever

This book has everything. A hot hockey player and a slightly awkward girl that suffers from foot in mouth syndrome. The unfiltered comments from Violet make for some laugh out loud moments. I love the narration too, I’ve read the book and having it read to me by two great narrators brings it alive even more. A big fat 5 stars from me.

Ratings dropped with changed male narrator

OMG! Had to download this again and to my horror, the male narrator voice has been changed- spoiler alert; NOT an improvement. I have no idea why this was done but please, please reverse it and someone please tell this new narrator that he. Should. Pause. Between. Sentences. He doesn’t read the lines itself too fast, but has no sense of timing and leaves hardly a millisecond between them. Excuse me while I go dig up my iPod with the previous narrator... 😫

OMG YOU HAVE TO READ THIS!!!

Violet is so crass its hilarious. She's also the unfortunate stepsister of Buck, a hairy whore of a Yeti, when she's not Jilling off to the milk ad guy, she's chillin at her Junior Accountant job. Her entire life is pretty much centred around Hockey but she refuses to date a player because she's not interested in being one of those puck bunnies. She's not interested in "Skanky Guys" UNTIL a one night stand leads her into the romantic cross-hairs of one Alex Waters. He's the Captain of her brothers new NHL hockey team, and has one hell of player reputation- off the ice. If only Violet's carnal lapse in judgement with Alex wasn't so fresh in her mind.. but hey-he IS the guy from the milk ad. For Alex? She's his Q on a triple word score, and he intends to prove to her that most of the tabloid rumors about him, are exactly that. Rumors. No Waters Hatricks. No Hockey Hookers. Muffy Newtown did an amazing job on this- the combination of Helenas Humor and her performance gave Violet that essential snark.

**Hilarious**

I found this book so funny and witty. It really was a great listen. I wouldn't normally choose a hockey story, but it was recommended to me, and I have to say it was a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging novel. Violet is absolutely hilarious, she's a little hapless and has a way of saying the wrong thing in the wrong moment, while Alex was a steady, solid, persevering guy. I thought the author captured the chemistry between the characters perfectly, and I also loved some of the other secondary characters in the book. This audiobook was hot in places. I thought Hunting's writing style was brilliant. It was really well observed, wry and downright funny in places. I also really enjoyed the dual narration. I thought the narrators were a brilliant pairing. I definitely recommend to anyone wanting to read or listen to a rom-com.
