About this listen

The aliens came without warning and humanity quickly found itself waging a losing war.

My name is James Thorne, and I wasn't supposed to matter. Before the invasion, I was just a guy in a dead-end job, keeping my head down and my past buried. The Gehenna want our annihilation. Thankfully, they angered the Aetherion who may help humanity not only fight back, but turn the tide.

When I’m offered the chance to be Cleansed, to become something more than I was, I take it. And it turns out I’m special. No, I’m not the Chosen One. And yes, there are others like me, but as a Psyker, I can do things most can't. Things that make me very dangerous.

As the war expands, the Gehenna think they’ve already won.

But they underestimated the power of a pissed off marine.

Hmmmmm

The story arc had so much potential and would have been on the same level as All You Need Is Kill. The characters were not believable; the accents were atrocious, and the story progression bogged down and failed to regain traction. Sad.

Just can't finish it as I was tearing it apart

3.5 hrs to go and I just dropped it cause I was tearing the book apart with inconsistency both with characters, world building and the story in how the writer was doing things or lack of. The Characters are a bunch of randoms turning into super soldiers with DND powers but are still more or less partisans that answer to themselves really as a rogue unit. Little to no training yet instantly get used to their new bodies, dumb or uncooperating leaders, the fact no nukes were used in defense of the world dying by apparently hundreds of millions no air battle even though its not stated the aliens control the skies or not but they have air power. I could go on. to sum it up its like Edge of tomorrow with a group of people that are partisans given shiny armour, guns and DND abilities. Main MC is smart mouth that I wanted him to just shut up most of the time, hell his girlfriend was a better character then him.
The voice actors are good but the male guy his mic must be very sensitive cause you could hear him inhale through his nose in some of the sentences, not common but it is there.
This book would be good for young adults concept is cool but not thought out properly if it was done more like Battle for Los Angles and slowly scaled up not edge of tomorrow style unless its really well explained.

Interesting but with inconsistencies

Righto so first up, why is it called Psker Marine when he's not a Marine. he was a prision guard and never receives formal marine training or title. Next i wanna know where the Nukes are?? like hell we're getting invaded and somebody doesn't start firing the nukes. Also it isn't explained to my knowledge why a cleansed can't attempt to do the cleansing twice.
This is still an interesting listen but it's not Realistic, humans would fight a lot harder then this book outlines and why the hell does Australia get levelled First? If your launching a surprise attack invasion and your entire thing is to convert biological material, wouldn't china he a better target with their dense population. Or target America, because well it's America who doesn't invade them first to take they're military's power off the board.
