Publisher's Summary

EMP blasts started the apocalypse during Tom and his family's return flight to San Francisco from Hawaii. Surviving the crash only caused them to confront the chaos of the apocalypse head-on. Their fellow survivors were helpless and lacked the skills to survive. Tom, his sister, and their grandma survive the perilous trip from San Francisco to their ranch in Southern Oregon using their prepper skills to keep them alive during the anarchy around them. They continue to lead a small band of friends through the chaos and anarchy that has shattered their world.

I really tried…

I really enjoy apocalyptic stories. They are really interesting and I love to find out how different people fare. I read the reviews for this one and hoped the negative ones were exaggerated… unfortunately they’re not.

The narrator is wooden, his script is awful. I can’t count the number of things that irritated me and certainly couldn’t say which was the worst.

SPOILER ALERT

The characters names are far too similar so the listener finds themselves having to think who they are, with the exception of ‘Granny B’… in this story the woman talks like and is written as being absolutely ancient. She’s constantly referred to as being an old woman and in the next breath says she’s 64 yo! Sorry, IMHO that’s not ancient!

Two of the couples meet, fall instantly in love (both sets experienced tingles that showed they were meant for each other) and marry (yes marry - why would you post EMP) within about a month - double wedding, twin brother and sister.

The author is a misogynist, the lead male character is a moralistic puritan.

There is no depth to the story, it’s very shallow.

Far too much ABC jargon referring to the name of the weapons which served absolutely no purpose.

I was astonished by how many useful things that should have been fried but made use of because they conveniently ‘were stored in an aluminium shelter’ or ‘the packs was tin foil-like’.

Could go on but won’t. I gave up with 7 hours to go. Give it a miss.

15 Year Old’s Dream Novel

I felt like a 15 year old gun enthusiast wrote this whilst pleasuring himself in his bedroom in under two weeks. I’ve read many, many prepper/end of the world novels and this takes the cake for being one of the worst. The plot, character development, and language was unfortunately very poorly structured.

*CAUTION SPOILERS BELOW*

The plot for this series held about as much weight as a wet paper bag. If fancy your characters meeting, falling in love, and getting married in a matter of days, constant references to gun dialogue (AR, AK, SAW etc. peppered every chapter), multiple fortuitous coincidences (a second bug out location appears in the second book which was a cave which could hold tens of people and a couple of undercover special ops crew helping the main characters on the side), dramatic and insane plot twists (the main characters waking up and finding themselves sleeping on a rattlesnake nest and escaping, with a lesser important family all succumbing or a couple a white supremest group with choppers suddenly appearing but are defeated) and a writing style where the narrator is constantly having to read out “he said” after each sentence, then this is the book for you!

Sexist, empty, stereotyped claptrap

I love an apocalypse fiction, but this is the worst “story” I’ve ever listened to. Don’t waste your money unless you are a video gamer who lives in fantasyland and never ventures out of the bedroom. Continuous objectification of women has made me full of rage.
