TWO MISSING BACKPACKERS. ONE VAST OUTBACK.

DS Lucas Walker is on leave in his hometown, Caloodie, taking care of his dying grandmother. When two young German backpackers, Berndt and Rita, vanish from the area, he finds himself unofficially on the case.

But why all the interest from the Federal Police when they have probably just ditched the heat and dust of the outback for the coast? Working in the organised crime unit has opened Walker's eyes to the growing drug trade in Australia's remote interior - and he becomes convinced there is more at play.

As the number of days since the couple's disappearance climbs, Walker is joined by Rita's older sister. A detective herself with Berlin CID, she has flown to Australia - desperate to find her sister.

Their search becomes ever more urgent as temperatures soar. Even if Walker does find the young couple, will it be too late?

Critic Reviews

'Tense, atmospheric and gripping. I adore Australian crime fiction and Outback doesn't disappoint. I eagerly await the next DS Walker thriller.' (Chris Whitaker, author of We Begin at the End)

I really enjoyed this book, couldn’t put it down at the end. I like the fact that it will probably follow with a continuation of elements of the story in the next book.
Fans of Jane Harper will probably enjoy it.

Great Australian outback read

From the shocking prologue, I was hooked. Outback is well written with excellent characterisations by the author that are skillfully portrayed by the narrator. Every character was brought to life. Subtle nuances did not go unnoticed. I felt I was there, living this horror. The heat, the dust, the desperation was palpable. The disregard and disrespect for life was difficult to comprehend; to understand. Without wanting to spoil anything, I thought the motivation of the antagonist could have been explored more. Whilst the author gave a glimpse into this characters childhood, it did not justify his actions.
Kudos to both author and narrator!
I am excited to see what Patricia Wolf has in store for D S Walker.

Excellent descriptions of Australia and its landscape and wildlife. Loved the German v Australian moments and the personalities, enjoyed the narration and the story in general. Builds to a great climax but won’t spoil the read by saying more.

Gripping good read

Well narrated, believable - this story sounds a lot like an event that actually occurred in outback Australia…

Believable
