About this listen

In a beach paradise, an unspeakable crime is committed. The only witness lies in a coma, fighting for her life...

Australia's Gold Coast: On a stunningly beautiful stretch of coastline, a young mother is brutally murdered and her daughter, Gabby, is left in a coma, with her life hanging in the balance.

DS Lucas Walker has just arrived in Surfer's Paradise for some much-needed recovery after injuries sustained in his last investigation. But he is soon pulled into the dark twists and turns of this home invasion gone wrong, vowing to find the men responsible.

As Walker digs deeper into the dark underbelly of this shimmering city by the ocean, a case from his own past resurfaces, with deadly consequences.

And as eight-year-old Gabby, the sole witness to her mother's murder, wakes in her hospital bed, Walker is in a race against time to stop those responsible before they return to silence her forever...

I enjoyed the story. A little predictable but that was probably the author's intent.
The only thing that really turned me off was the constant use of
"yeah, nah". I'll be watching my speech from now on.
Kudos to the narrator who did a great job.

Fast paced.

A fabulous listen for DS Walkers second installment. The intricate weaving of characters tells a tale of deep corruption, high stakes drug running and the associated fallouts from all of it. Can’t wait for the third one.

Intricate storytelling

The corruption on the Gold Coast is just as real as the heat of central Queensland in the first book and characters DS Walker meets along the way. Love the vernacular and I’m sure the narrator had a lot of fun. Yeah Nah.

Good yarn

For someone who lives in Ipswich and knows the Gold Coast well, the descriptions of those areas were outstanding and added to being immersed in the story. Excellent narration adds to the enjoyment. Well worth a listen.

Enjoyed this DS Walker book but thought it wrapped up too quickly. All loose ends tied. I thought the story was developing nicely but thought the ending would be more suspenseful

The ending was disappointing
