Publisher's Summary

OMBEA! Bea Schumacher is a devastatingly stylish plus-size fashion blogger with amazing friends, thousands of Insta followers - and a massively broken heart. Bea indulges in her weekly obsession: the hit reality show Main Squeeze. The fantasy dates! The kiss-off rejections! The surprising amount of guys named Chad! But Bea is sick and tired of the lack of body diversity on the show. Since when is being a size zero a prerequisite for getting engaged on television?

Although Bea has sworn off men altogether, when Main Squeeze asks her to be its next star, she agrees on one condition: under no circumstances will she actually fall in love.

But when the cameras start rolling, Bea finds herself in a whirlwind of sumptuous couture, Twitter wars, sexy suitors and an opportunity (or two, or five) to find messy, real-life love in the midst of a made-for-TV fairy tale. Bea has to decide whether it might just be worth trusting these men - and herself - for a chance at her own happily ever after.

So many feelings!!!

4.5 Stars

As a plus-size woman, I was worried about what this book would be about. But I really resonated with so many of the feelings and ideas brought up. The shame and hatred for women like me are intense, even the inner thoughts of how the world looks like people like me.

Finding love as a plus-size woman was a very relatable plot point. The idea of setting the story in a romance reality show was even better. Honestly, I don't watch The Batchelor, Married at First Sight, or any other of that kind of shows. However, this view makes me feel represented and heard. As a plus-size woman, I have never felt that I would be even considered a glamorous show like that.

There are so many hilarious quotes in this book. It’s great.

I read this book to complete May's #readingwithmuffy reading prompt. However, I would recommend this to everyone anyway, especially those struggling with body image.

Can’t do it. Can’t make myself listen to it.

I have tried and tried to listen to this and I can’t help but feel the author is so much on social media that she has no idea how to write an actual book. I can not handle listening to time stamps of text messages or email, #’s or user names. I want an actual story and not social media posts, if I wanted that I would go to social media.

If you can’t handle this style of writing I would avoid this book.

Different

Some parts of the story were a bit drawn out, but a solid 3.5 read.
I loved the narration and have looked for other books by Kristen Sieh.
#squeezmaniacs, camel guides, the brothers and Gwen & Linus bumped up my rating.

Brilliant debut novel

I adored this book! I'm sad to have finished it and so glad I chose it in audio form. I needed a break between heavy reads and this was wonderful, while still dealing with some heavy content. The narration was brilliant, her accents added so much to a dialogue heavy story. Ripe for a screen adaptation.

Fun time

This is a fun time!! I enjoyed listening; and I hope there’s more books soon. Also, I was happily surprised by the narrator. She did a great job, which I didn,t expect.

Great book!

This was a really great and relaxing book during this whole Covid situation. The storyline had a bit of everything, good and bad people. I absolutely love the ending. It was very satisfying!

I would highly recommend this book if you’re into romance and self love and female leads 😃

Who is this for?

I don’t think this is the intent of the book but it’s definitely made me want to lose weight.
Really good performance and likeable characters although it’s hard to justify the ending after that particular character’s behaviour so it doesn’t exactly feel like a happily ever after.

Really good read

When I started reading the book I felt a little disappointed. I didn't like that so much of the story was based around messenger. However I persisted with it because a friend recommended it and I actually enjoyed the book as I grew to know Bea and engaged with the storyline as a plus size person
