Publisher's Summary

He’s a Vietnam vet, with a new lease on life. To fight an out-of-this-world invasion, he’ll need a little help from his friends...

Albert Jenkins never cared much for bureaucrats and politicians. So, when the Galactic Congress refuses to act on the illegal invasion of Earth by parasitic aliens, he does what any self-respecting vet would do - he steals a spaceship. But when AJ and a snarky pop culture-loving alien companion are pursued by space cops, he does the only rational thing he can come up with. He strategically crash-lands on a junkyard moon.

When he finally make it back home with what he hopes is a cure for the occupying parasites, he discovers the situation is worse than expected. The microscopic invaders have redoubled their efforts to strip Earth of critical resources, yet are undiscovered by humanity.

Knowing that time is in short supply, AJ calls on his network of crusty yet elite buddies from 'Nam. Fortunately, it does not take much convincing to get these aging patriots to saddle up one more time to kick some alien ass. With youth restored, this elite squad of old vets will pit themselves against an unseen enemy. The question is - can they put an end to this global invasion, once and for all?

Old Dogs, Older Tricks is the second book in the wild Junkyard Pirate space opera series. If you like sarcastic heroes, hilarious extraterrestrial sidekicks, and ragtag military units, then you’ll love Jamie McFarlane’s epic adventure.

Great series

Worth every penny every time. Always stories that truly defines what makes original SciFi adventure tales. I always can’t wait for Jamie McFarlane and Mikael Naramores next audiobook to be released. Always finish listening and reading the first day I can download. With around 20 audiobooks they have worked together on. They make a Solid team as writer and narrator mastering there crafts. Thank you.

A bit misogynistic

The story was a bit misogynistic - I wonder if this review will make it through - very interesting if it doesn't. Don't feel like spending the time to write again a more detailed review of the two books so far. Not buying the next book.

is he a soldier or a marine?

love the story, and the author, I've enjoyed most of his books but as a vet I wish he'd pick which service aj fought with at area 51 he was a marine and was 2 different mos in the army, don't care what he can do just be one, or I guess we can have multiple tours changing branches whatever

Way too many clichés,

If you actually served in Vietnam, the only folks that ever referred to it as NAM were the REMFS or those that never served It was always referred to as Vietnam not NAM.. The story was a bit disjointed at times to me. A valiant effort by the author tho!!

Scify is disease, war, to body snatures and humor?

This was fun to listen to. Usually I turn a blind eye to these kinds of tall tales with piss and vinager and repeating paragraphs due to (maybe) a lack of memory or dyslexia that I sffer from? But I still enjoy so many other aspects of this two tale novels of this interesting adventure novels that it would be wonderful if this author would go back and write a 3rd novel?

Then convincing the same narrator to reading another story about more like the other 2 novels. Bring these chactors back together again? Is that too much? Maybe that's a little overboard, but I live near the ocean and play guitar? How much fun is that?

Interesting premise, delivery and was more appealing than expected

Had only moderate hope for series but was surprised by it. I recommend it, no real big messages or social ideals challenged but was fun and engaging

Not bad, just some annoyances

A pleasant listen, with the exception of a few themes.
The Good:
- Yes, yes I do look forward to reading next in the series.
- Love the cypher-genius dog, laughing every time he appears...
- Challenges and solutions are developed and no one char dominates the "good idea" fountain.
- The world continues to grow and there is the use of spear bears to advance the story. Being part of the resistance seems like a sure way to finding a violent ending.

My exceptions (truly mine):
- I walk away unsatisfied with the pay backs or at least compensation for the misery caused by the Kergles.
AJ and Darnell have blown through their life savings to save the planet. I understand AJ's sitting on a fortune, but the Kergles just left without consequences. Maybe this is a future plot point, but this bugged me, for this book.
- The Vietnam Vet card seems to be a too often. This may be because of being one and some old ghosts visiting as a result. I do see that AJ and Darnell's and the Doc's relationship are anchored to this experience.
- I was going to bash the plot point of the Galactic Congress and sapient , but since it is a plot point, it would just be a rant...
