El dios, informado por sus dos cuervos, Hugin y Munin, descubre que la pócima está en algún lugar de Jötunheim y emprende el viaje a la tierra de los gigantes para hacerse con ella, pero el mago Suttung guarda celosamente el hidromiel de la poesía en una montaña encantada custodiada por su hija, Gunnlod.
