The galaxy is in flames. Chaos is in the ascendant across the stars. The Great Rift has split the holdings of the Imperium in twain, isolating entire sectors from the light of Holy Terra. But all hope is not lost. The Primarch Roboute Guilliman has returned from deathless sleep and appointed Commander Dante, lord of the Blood Angels, as Regent and Warden of the newly dubbed Imperium Nihilus. In the Baal system, the shattered holding of the Chapter is being rebuilt, and Dante plans the greatest campaign of his long life, to retake half an empire.

Fixed version
When I was first listening to this, it repeated one of the chapters. That has now been fixed and I can say that this is worth getting. I'm not used to Bruce Mackinnon, but he's not bad and I think he does well enough to show enough enthusiasm without going too over the top to be annoying like Robin Bowerman can be. The story itself is fine, but from what I have heard the series gets much better second book onwards.

Excellent narration with good story!
The narrator is new to me, but has impressed me immensely with his voice skills. The story is exciting at moments, but I found all the "twists, turns, and surprises" to be highly predictable. As far as the Ultramarines, they do what Ultramarines do as always. I found the Arbites to be more human and less "Ultra Chad" than the Astartes. Overall, worth the listen, especially if you like Loyalist Astartes.

Sort of ok
A little disappointed in the narration. Seems as though speed in delivery was irritating and really a space marine should have a deep voice. Story wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. There are better in this series.

Ultramarines being Ultramarines
The story is no nail biter full of mystery and Machiavellian machinations but it is a story of the boys in blue doing what they do best and we get inquisitor in disguise too, I enjoyed it but it not one I would listen to again, the narrator was new to me and he did a good job with all the right intonations and inflections
