A LEGENDARY ASSASSIN.
AN IMPOSSIBLE HEIST.
THE WAY OF SHADOWS CALLS ONCE MORE.

'One of the best examples of modern fantasy that I've read' Fantasy Faction

New York Times bestselling author Brent Weeks delivers a modern masterpiece of epic fantasy.

After the war that cost him so much, Kylar Stern is broken and alone. He' s determined not to kill again. But Kylar's best - and maybe only - friend, High King Logan Gyre, needs him. To protect a fragile peace, Logan's new kingdom and his twin sons, he needs Kylar to secure a powerful magical artefact that was unearthed during the war.
Adversaries both old and new are on the hunt for this relic, but if Kylar does the job right, he won't need to kill at all. This isn't an assassination - it's a heist. But some jobs are too hard for an easy conscience, and some enemies are so powerful the only answer lies in the shadows.

Complex and compelling finale to the series

Liked the character development and the fact that the characters are all slightly, but not entirely flawed.

Ethical Fantasy

Absolutely astounding narrative weave of fantasy and ethical dilemma, laced with true human moral ambiguity. Fantastic.

Great book, pretty dark. Different Narrator.

Firstly what caught me off guard is that the narrator has been changed, it stood out like a sore thumb as i just relistened to the books before this one, i do feel that he could have at least done the effort to pronounce the names the same as they are in the other books, for quite a while i thought Kyler was another persona that Kylar has assumed in the aftermath. Thought he was pretty dumb because so far he went from Kylar to Kyle, to Kyler. Nope turns out the narrator just didn't do his homework in order to keep the listeners immersed. Appart from that he did a great job with the narration. Story wise i loved how dark it was and the gallows humor, absolutely hated the queen's character and feel that it doesn't fit from what we learned of her so far. Can't wait to see how this series unfolds further, would like to see the Chantry get smashed down to rubble so it starts from scratch without all those dirty vipers.

Couldn’t put it down

I loved the pov tale and the sassy ka’kari it reminded me of the footnotes jay kristoff uses a lot in the nevernight series. Some lines had me literally laughing out loud and other parts had me holding my breath.
Simon Vance reads with so much passion and sense of urgency where required it can’t help but get your heart racing.
Highly recommend!

Epic story, superb narration

I have updated my first review of this book to say that I think it’s one of the best I’ve read all year. It is thought provoking, humorous and tragic. Brent Weeks ability to take the reader on such a complicated journey is, as always, aided and abetted by the superb narration of Simon Vance. Thank you to the Weeks/Vance team.

Exceptional as always

As all of Brent’s I’ve read so far, this book is exceptional. It does have a different feel to it’s predecessors though. It is an incredible tale; emotive, enjoyable and humorous. Yet also thought provoking and confronting, even unsettling at times. The ending…words seem insufficient, it needs to be experienced.
A masterpiece as Brent’s books always are. And of course Simon Vance’s performance is beyond compare

An amazing book with a great narrator

This book made me realise how much I loved the original trilogy and how much I missed it.

I was a little skeptical about this one, especially since it was coming out so much later than the original trilogy, but also because of the unconventional way it was written. But all in all, I had no right to question Brent and his writing.

This dive back into the Ka’Kari Codex was one that I was so excited for, and for a good reason. The way it was written, although very different, made such an impact on what we were given within this story. Being able to receive Vi’a reaction to Kylar and his response to situations she was apart to was a treat.

What was even more of a treat was Kylar’s inner monologue. His monologue mixed with the Ka’Kari’s is what made this book. The plot was incredibly strong as usual, there was no doubt in my mind I would be blown away, but what made me love Kylar even more was being privy to his most inner thoughts and feelings. It broke my soul into multiple pieces going through what he did.

I will wallow here in sadness and yearning until I can continue on with Kylar’s story’s

Different, but amazing.

Absolutely loved this book. Totally different vibe to the previous story but builds astounding empathy for the very “real” characters. Clever, insightful and more twists and turns & politics that you could ask for! only downside is the wait for the next one.
