About this listen
Audie Award, Fantasy, 2016
As the smallest dragon in the Heartstriker clan, Julius survives by a simple code: keep quiet, don't cause trouble, and stay out of the way of bigger dragons. But this meek behavior doesn't fly in a family of ambitious magical predators, and his mother, Bethesda the Heartstriker, has finally reached the end of her patience. Now, sealed in human form and banished to the DFZ - a vertical metropolis built on the ruins of Old Detroit - Julius has one month to prove he can be a ruthless dragon or kiss his true shape goodbye forever. But in a city of modern mages and vengeful spirits where dragons are considered monsters to be exterminated, he's going to need some serious help to survive this test. He only hopes humans are more trustworthy than dragons....

A different type of dragon story
This is a significantly different style of dragon story and very enjoyable for that reason. I really liked the MMC and FMC and their growing friendship. The magic of the Detroit setting is also unusual and adds mystery and suspense.
It took me quite a while to get used to the narrator. He has a good array of voices to use for the characters but it's his bland-ish tone that was uncomfortable. By about half way through I was fine with it.
I'm listening to book 2 now and am happy to continue with the series.

modern dragon story
loved it. the male narrator does the voices well.
very imaginative setting and rather new for a dragon story. no blasphemy or swearing, which is a plus. and nice undertones of romance and friendship
