Critic Reviews

“The Bradley Method’s simple objective, through relaxation, breathing, and visualization, is a birth free of the interventions frequently offered to women in the different stages of childbirth: fetal monitors, drug-induced labor, anesthesia, episiotomy, and Caesarean section. (Its) other defining feature, the husband’s active participation in the delivery, is critical to this overall goal of an intervention-free birth.” (Mothering)

Comprehensive guide to the physical and psychological aspects of childbirth

This book is fantastic. It discusses in detail the medical side of birth and serves as a practical guide for mothers and fathers. It is comprehensive and clear. It lacks in storytelling and could include more positive stories that pregnant women may want to hear. But it’s more of a manual, seeped in all the information you need to make actual informed consent when it comes to birth choices.

negative scare tactics and guilt trips

condescending tones of the writer shine through the same tone of the narrator. I've read many a pregnancy book an many topics. I'm a huge supporter of natural birth and in particular hypnobirth which is so empowering so I thought I'd read this to compare techniques. I had to skip so many chapters as they were just awful, so so soooo negative, some comments are just down right disgusting. I feel for any first time mothers who may have unfortunately chosen this as their first read. please read something more empowering and not fear based. I've given up and won't be finishing it and I wholeheartedly recommend against this book.
