Publisher's Summary

Miss Katherine Danvers has always been a wallflower. But now with her family on the brink of financial ruin, she finds herself a desperate wallflower. To save her family, she'll do anything. Luckily, she has the perfect plan....

She'll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters. No one has heard from the duke in years. Surely he'll never find out before her sisters' weddings and she can go back to her own quiet life.

Soon, though, everything is out of control. At first, it's just a few new ball gowns on the duke's accounts. Then it's interviews with reporters eager for gossip. Before she knows it, Katherine has transformed herself into Kitty Danvers, charming and clever belle of the ton - with everyone eager to meet her thankfully absent fiance.

But when the enigmatic Alexander Masters suddenly arrives in the city, dashing and oh so angry, he demands retribution. Except not in the way Katherine expected....

Contains mature themes.

Horrible Narration

The story would have been ok if it had not been for the narrator. The narrator had a very breathy voice, she paused too often and in inappropriate places, and pronounced words like she was trying a fancy British accent, but she just sounded ridiculous. I had to stop listening because it was way too annoying. If you can ignore the narrator, I’d recommend the story.

Cute story

The narrator made it hard to listen. The fluctuation in her voice was annoying and hard to hear. The story was cute though.

Breathy and whispering narrative

Tough to listen to. Narrative is breathy and soft...very annoying. Story is alright...a bit slow.

I really was intrigued by the storyline but I couldn’t get past the narrator. Who hired her???

Good story, horrible narrator.

Please re-record this book with another narrator. The story is wonderful but it's almost painful to listen to. I tried but couldn't finish

OMG!

I was trying to give the narrator's performance a chance. I listened to the sample. That must of been her best , bc I couldn't get past chapter 1. She and the author Stacy Reid are first. I might listen to another of the authors books but never of Mary Sarah's! I don't normally give bad ratings but I should of taken a hint from other reviews.
No! I it's not worth a credit. 😨😭

amazing! beautiful! lovely!

Honestly loved this book so much that it baffles me how people will only talk about the narrator. I listen to everything at 1.50 speed. For this narrator I'd recommend listening at 1.25 and get over it. It actually sounds good once it's speed up. She does overly act out some things but it doesn't really make it distracting enough to not be able to enjoy the book.

First book by this author

This was the first book by this author. My only complaint is that she brought your to steaminess several times only to snatch it back, until finally at the end completely it. It was kinda slow getting started, but overall was a very good read. I will read more of her books. Uniquely different.

I had to laugh

The narrator is awful. But the story is worth it. Just laugh and embrace it.

AWFUL NARRATION test of endurance

Because someone can mean does not mean that they should, diabolical!
It it actually sounds like artificial intelligence robot voice, overly breathy and little intonation in keeping with the sentence. Dialogue between characters was abysmal, played around with the speed to make sure I could get the best out of it but didn get past the first chapter. I'm sure I have listened to this narrator before without it being so bad. (edit - I have and that's the only book out of the hundreds I have that I have had a refund on! Had!)
need a refund.
I couldn't rate the story as couldn't endure the narrator that far, however the author should have some say over its performance if this is how she perceived it I cannot think I would be a ble to endure other books.

A lovely story reined

If you can manage to plow through the dreadful narration you'll find a lovely romance.

I could sort 9f handle the breathiness but not saying simple words properly us just unforgettable.

Mary Sarah would repeated say barck (back), larp (lap) and others the same.

I will never but a another book narrated by her.

Thanks you Stacy for a beautiful story.

Acceptable romance ruined by narration

indeed struggled to finish...no matter how much I would like to invest in the charecters the narrator just ruined it ... made me focus on her intonations and breathlessness. why does she have to read each chapter heading as such..."chapter telweveeeeee"...pardon but the story was distracted by the narrator unfortunately
