Dr. Ted Hotkins wartet vergeblich auf eine Patientin. Vor einigen Monaten sah diese angeblich einen Geist im Moor. Laut einer alten Sage muss jede Person, die dem Gespenst gegenübertritt, innerhalb eines Jahres sterben. Wenig später erfährt Hotkins von Inspektor Wilson, dass seine Patientin tödlich verunglückt ist.
Die beiden Freunde machen sich in Richtung des Tatorts auf und landen kurz darauf im Blendford Castle. Dort berichtet ihnen die neue Erbin Lisa, dass im Schloss angeblich Gespenster umgehen. Wenig überzeugt von diesen Aussagen ermitteln die Männer weiter. Bis Hotkins selber dem Moorgeist begegnet und sich über beide Ohren verliebt. Von da an nehmen die Ereignisse eine dramatische Wendung...
Hermann Oppermann wurde 1937 in Hannover geboren und erlebte dort den Zweiten Weltkrieg hautnahe. Nach turbulenten Jahren zieht er sich in ein Blockhaus in der Wildnis Kanadas zurück und beginnt dort Bücher zu schreiben: zuerst Western, doch schon bald probiert er sich in verschiedensten Genren aus.
