Publisher's Summary

Being part of the Midwest Pack isn't easy - especially now. My life has never been simple - and it only keeps getting more complicated. The Alphas, Ethan, and several key players in the otherworld go missing, thrusting me into the position of Elite Alpha and tasking me with finding them. The list of suspects grows as I realize that mating with Ethan has caused allies to become enemies. Will I locate the missing in time or will I be the last Alpha standing?

I don't know who I can trust. Too many people want me dead, including a new group of witches who want to rid the world of were-animals, especially those who can wield magic like me and Ethan. Adding to the problems is a new group of vampires, who would do anything necessary to gain control of the Northern Seethe and the power it holds over the Midwest, including hurting the people I love. There's no way I'm going to let that happen. But will my life be the cost for their protection?

Great Series

I have listened to this whole sereis, there is one book to go in this 7 book series. It is a great fun, action packed series. This series is definitely a roller coaster ride. The narrator may seem to read a little slow at first but you soon get used to her. As the series progresses she does a good job with the narration. She also does a great job with the other voices. Skylar is a young girl who grew up not knowing what she was. At 16 she discovered she was a wolf, she was scared by that part of herself and once a month on the full moon kept her wofl in a cage. She came to be afraid and hate that part of herself. Years latter she is attacked and her mother murdered she is saved and taken in by the Midwest Pack. Now she is thrown into a violent world she doesn’t understand or want anything to do with. Skylar has to survive and come to terms with who and what she is. There is more to Skylar than being a Wolf Shifter, much much more. This story is about her survival and journey to discover who and what she really is. This is a seven book series, remember this is the first book. Skylars growth thoughout this series is realistic. I can imagine myself bumbling through this dangerous world. Would I become a kickarse fighter in a few months. No way. Would I accept this Scary Violent new world without question. No way! I didn’t see Sky as wimpy. I saw her as young woman shoved unexpectedly into a world she didn’t understand. Also growing up hating and not understanding her wolf side made it more scary to her. She was a believable character who as each book progresses becomes more confident and comfortable in her world. She gaines skills and becomes a kickarse Heroine any Author would be proud of. Half the fun is how she bumbles her way along. A good series has character growth and flawed characters. In real life we all have flaws and the best books have flawed characters. If they were perfect there would be no need for growth and it would be a very boring story. This series is not boring. It is exciting and each book is better than the last. There is action adventure and latter in the series a little romance. There are so many secrets to uncover and adventures to be had. I also love Ethan and his growth throughout these books, he is a arse at times but you grow to love and understand him. I have read the first six books in this series and can’t wait for the final seventh book. Do yourself a favour and buy this audiobook book. If you have kindle unlimited you have nothing to loose it’s $3 for the audiobook. There is so much to this series ! Listen to the first two books and you will definitely be hooked like I was.

Great start to a series

3.5⭐️ “Moon Tortured” is book one in McKenzie Hunter’s Sky Brooks series. This series is in Skylar’s POV and follows her life into the world of the supernatural. Being a werewolf has always been the one thing that Skylar despises about herself. Each month when the moon calls for her wolf she would sedate and lock herself in a cage. When a bunch of Vampires attack her home and is saved by the local Werewolf pack, learning to accept her wolf is going to be one of the many things she is going to have to do. Demetrius the leader of the Seethe wants Skylar and it’s now the Midwest Pack’s responsibility to keep her safe and out of the hands of the Vampires, or life as they know it will be total chaos. This is the first time I have read something by this author. I can say I am really enjoying her writing. This book was well paced with lots of action, suspense, angst, excitement and surprises. I read this book in one sitting it was that enjoyable. With so many great characters that I can’t wait to see grow and flourish in this series. I did find Skylar to be immature, eradicate and annoying at times. Now I understand she has been thrown into a world she knows nothing about or want anything to do with. But seriously her life is at risk, you’d think after the first two attempts on her life she would stop acting so stubborn and listen to the people trying to keep her alive and safe. Yes they may be werewolves with tempers and uncertainty in regards to how the future is going to look, but they are the experts in regards to the supernatural world. Ethan, wow a typical alpha male, banging on chest and expecting the female to listen. Sorry bud but you are going to have to try harder. He is going to be fun to read when I go to his POV that have been written. Josh, I’m really unsure of what I think of him, I’m on the fence about him. Stephen, is a real sweetheart and is the friend that Skylar needed.

Great start

Speed up the narration to 1.25 and it sounds normal. Good story, improving as it continues (she was so stupid at the start). I am looking forward to reading the same book from Ethan’s POV

use a nasal spray.

I have read other books that was performed by this narrator. This particular book she must have had a cold or allergys. You could tell she was struggling. The show should not always go on. Got my money back

confusing

It could have been an amazing book but its full of boring dialogue not enough action in it. Skylar is annoying like hell. I just cant get into the story. A let down ending i meant she supposed to host a powerful spirit shade in her but she can barely protect herself. The only thing that made me give this a four star is the narrator Jorjeana Marie she amazing.

Same, same but different

At first it feels very similar to other werewolf/vampire series I have listened to and very much enjoyed but didn’t feel the allure of such a similar story but after the first couple of chapters the story broadens out to be different enough and I slowly started to connect with the main character who at first I found quite unappealing. I ended up really enjoying this book to the point I am about to purchase the new book in the series. As far as the narrator, I did find a bit irritating as she sounds like she has a blocked nose but I guess it may just be her accent and I did get used to it but wish the following books had someone else.

Not to my liking

I tried for two hours to like this book. But with the narrator and the story I just couldn't get in to it.

Horrible Narrator! Good story

What did you love best about Moon Tortured?

the story was good and worth reading-dont listen! The narrator is so nasally it is difficult to listen to and it sounds like just reading (no different voices).

How could the performance have been better?

New narrator. Maybe she could have blown her nose and work on voices

Impressive Debut

There are several reasons I was impressed with this book. I will list a few.
1. Jorjeana Marie's portrayal of Skylar brought to life her vulnerable state in very difficult circumstances. This allowed me to not get angry at the character when she behaved impulsively.
2. The world created by McKenzie Hunter is realistic and very well developed.
3. The supporting characters are just well developed and interesting as the main characters. I would like to know more about Winter, Joan and Steven. The entire cast is great.
4. The story has lots of action with several plot twists that make it difficult to stop listening.

I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next one.

Good story, bad narration

The story isn't anything "groundbreaking" but it's interesting and engaging throughout. My biggest problem was J.Marie's slow and drab performance. There's no inclination and the parts she tries to sound wistful or sensual terms into a dry slow tone that puts one to sleep. You won't be able to tell fight scenes from sensual ones from just descriptions of scenery.

Could have been made better with different narrator

I think I probably would've enjoyed the book more if it was narrated by somebody else. I have a pretty big library of books in this category. Everything from the hollows, Mercy Thompson, alpha/omega, Spider assasin series, sookie Stackhouse mysteries, midnight Texas, Kat & Bones, and more so this is really my category and the type of series I hoped for. But I was annoyed by the main character that was a very annoying teen that was not put in her place enough and her defiance did not fit her lack of life experience. Which in turn made her just a bratty know it all. I could feel the author trying, but the narrator ruined it. She switched voices poorly and didn't have many pitch changes at all. She also would occasionally decide a person needed an accent then lose that accent. My biggest complaint is to even be able to read it, I had to speed it up. (X1.25) at least. Every word was read like she was scared to make a mistake and very slowly, and heavily articulated. This made the book 9 hours instead of 14. I really tried to give it a chance. But it took way to long to get going, many insignificant details of room layouts that never saw action, characters that didn't resurface, bland brutish A-typical wolf-Pack mentality, lots of pity, and protecting someone that needed a lesson in life. I tried but the gal reading it made it too difficult to like. I listen to a lot of books, A LOT. Sometimes the worst books can be made better with the reader, I worry that this was the reverse for this one.

Weak and foolish main character

The primise of the book sounded good but execution not so much. Main character was weak and constantly made foolish decisions so much so it was hard to finish.

Underwhelming

I had high hopes for this book from the description and the fact that it was a werewolf book, but alas it feel short. I would have liked the action scenes to have been fleshed out more and the whiney brat who runs away all the time parts to have been put in the background rather than the forefront of the story. The underlying ideas had merit and I'm sure they are delved into deeper in the following books of the series but I have no desire to continue reading on.

Just Okay

The story isn't bad but it didn't keep me engrossed. It definately did not leave me with a desperate need to read the next book. The narrative also felt flat. I had to speed up the narrative a bit to keep from falling asleep.

Story impacted by malapropism

Example... Decor is not decorum... correct verbiage is more impactful, much as smaller words suffice and sometimes even enhance the listeners enjoyment of the story. The mental faculties required to untangle Brobdingnagian words is immense, particularly when you simply want to listen or read a good story. I like my dictionary, but don't want to read with it.

eh

I like the story and I think if I read the book myself I would have been addicted but the readers, nasal voice, over pronunciation and her monotone voice through what should have been exciting parts killed it for me

Performance slow

The performance is slow at the start but improves as the story progresses.

Overall it's an ok story I'm reading this through my kindle unlimited account and bought the audiobook book to listen to while reading. The writing improves as the story progresses (if this is their first book that would explain it) There's a few times it feels as if the writer has used a thesaurus as the word they've used is out of the blue.

If you like stories with were, vampires and magic then give this a try. I'm going to read the second book to see how the story progresses as I usually find the writing improves in second books or I quickly move onto another book.

Very negative

The performance is great but the book itself is negative and hostile. Not light listening. I struggled to finish it because in most books there is a positive to cancel out the negative such as love or something that makes you laugh or at least smile. This book doesn't have either unfortunately. Well written but not bed time listening.

Good Story but Dull Narration

This is a good story but very much held back by the narrator who was bland and slow. If the narrator had put a little pace into the book it would have been much better.
The story follows Skyler Brooks whose mother has just been killed by Vampires and the Midwest pack have taken her under their wing, much against their better judgement. Skyler has kept her wolf caged during the full moons since she was 14. She does want to be a werewolf! As the story progresses we find she has other abilities.
I took more than two weeks to read this book because of the bland narrator. Would I recommend it? Yes but not a first choice .
