Story
Like most people who own their own business, I work long hours that start early in the morning. So when someone calls me in the middle of the night, they'd better be dying.... Mechanic Mercy Thompson is woken at 3:00 a.m. by a vampire calling in a favour. He has to deliver a message to a fellow undead and needs a witness who won't be noticed - and Mercy's shapeshifting abilities make her the perfect candidate.

Story
It wasn't hard to follow the scent of blood to the living room where the fae had been killed. It had been a violent death, perfect for creating ghosts. Mercy Thompson enjoys life as a mechanic, but life is never simple given her increasing closeness to the local werewolf pack and her ability to change into coyote form at will. And when a member of the fae community calls in a favour, needing her skills for a covert murder investigation, she jumps into the hunt.

Story
Car mechanic and sometime shape-shifter Mercy Thompson has learned, the hard way, why her race was almost exterminated. When European vampires immigrated to North America, they found Mercy's people had a hidden talent - for vampire slaying. Unfortunately for Mercy, the queen of the local vampire seethe has discovered her true identity. She's also furious when she learns Mercy has crossed her and killed one of her vampires. Mercy may be protected from direct reprisals by the werewolf pack (and her interesting relationship with its Alpha), but that just means Marsilia will come after Mercy some other way. So Mercy had better prepare to watch her back.

Story
Being a mechanic is hard work. Mercy Thompson, for instance, just spent the last couple of months trying to evade the murderous queen of the local vampire seethe, and now the leader of the werewolf pack - who's maybe more than just a friend - has asked for her help. A book of fae secrets has come to light and they're all about to find out how implacable - and dangerous - the fae can be. OK, so maybe her troubles have nothing to do with the job. But she sure could use a holiday....

Car mechanic Mercy Thompson has always known there was something different about her, and not just the way she can make a VW engine sit up and beg. Mercy is a shape-shifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. And she's never known any others of her kind. Until now. As Mercy comes to terms with this new information, an evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River. Something deadly is coming, facts are thin on the ground and Mercy feels ill at ease. However, her father's people may know more.

My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic. And a coyote shape-shifter...and the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack. Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn't stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who live in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats and an occasional troll.

I am Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman. My only 'superpowers' are that I turn into a 35-pound coyote and fix Volkswagens. But I have friends in odd places and a pack of werewolves at my back. It looks like I'm going to need them. Centuries ago, the fae dwelt in Underhill. When they were cast out, they left behind their great castles, troves of magical artefacts...and their prisoners. Without the fae to mind them, those creatures roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc. Only the deadliest survived....

Publisher's Summary
'I didn't realize he was a werewolf at first. My nose isn't at its best when surrounded by axle grease and burnt oil....'
Mercedes Thompson runs a garage in the Tri-Cities. She's a mechanic, and a damn good one, who spends her spare time karate training and tinkering with a VW bus that happens to belong to a vampire. Her next-door neighbour is an alpha werewolf - literally, the leader of the pack. And Mercy herself is a shapeshifter, sister to coyotes. As such, she's tolerated by the 'wolves but definitely down the pecking order. As long as she keeps her eyes down and remembers her place, the pack will leave her in peace.

I liked it but I'm a bit more on the gritty side and there's not much steam happening here. there were convenient moments of realisation throughout which helped the book along. it's also only book 1 so I suspect ms briggs is paving the way.

Great narration, even better story...
This is without a doubt one of my favourite books I have ever read (repeatedly). The story is amazing and a good starter, giving you a taste of the Mercyverse which will have you binge listening/reading all her books, there is another series from Briggs which follows parallel with Mercy however you can easily only listen/read this series and still know what's happening (which is good since Alpha and Omega series isn't yet available on audible... boo). The narration is great, really portrays the characters and more importantly is consistant throughout the series (so far) so no need to worry that'll you get used to one voice in one book only to have to get used to another in the following. Overall, definitely a book you'll keep re-reading/listening to for many years to come.

I shake my head and thinks why haven't I bought Patiricua Briggs books before now because she is a fantastic writer omg I love Mercy Thompson she is different from a lot of heroine she gives as much as she gets and more. It's a brilliant plot with lots of twist and turns, I didn't even expected the ending. It's sad though. Lorelei King she is amazing, she can do all the voices and still she make them all unique in their own right.

Sandy Williams "The shadow reader". Both are great stories, intriguing characters, good dialog, a mix between action and romance.
Which character – as performed by Lorelei King – was your favorite?

Very enjoyable book very well narrated
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes - it has a good story, the principle character is very likeable and the narration is excellent
What other book might you compare Moon Called to, and why?
Its in the same lines as the Sookie Stackhouse ( but without the sex) and Jane Yellowrock ( our heroine is also a shifter ) stories. It is set in our world but where Vampires and Werewolves and other Fey characters are very active. There are some subtle differences and the Werewolves have a bigger role than Vampires in this book - bit of a hint in the title there. If you like the Stackhouse/Yellowrock books you will probably like this
Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Not yet but I will and hope she is as good in those
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Made me laugh in a few places
Any additional comments?
Enjoyed it and will be downloading the next book in the series soon

I loved this book, and I will definitely be getting the rest. Mercy is a great character. She feisty, funny and cheeky and she doesn't let herself be pushed around. I also really like the fake that she's not supernaturally strong or stunningly beautiful, she's just a normal woman who happens to turn into a coyote. It makes her much more believable and likeable as a character, plus we all love an underdog.
The narrator did a good job and has a pleasant voice, which made the book enjoyable to listen to as well.

Disappointed
This genre is right up my alley and read good reviews.. But sadly I find it to be slow and boring, I have heard about 5 hours into the book and for the last three I have thought about returning it, but kept going in the hope that it would grow on me... But no... Am giving up..
The book can just nok keep my attention, I have no connection with the characters or the storyline..
No recommendation for this book from me.
The narrator is good and is absolutely doing well with what she have to work with...

Quite Slow burn
This isn't the first series by this author I've read but that one is a spin off of this so here is me circling back to the OG. Mercy is strong, independent and surrounded by Alpha males. She seems to know where she stands but I feel like there's a lot more to her than she knows. It's not a romance (at least yet) and on that score it's slow burn as heck. It's otherwise quite action packed with the packs and Adam. I will be checking for the rest of this series for sure

couldn't stop listening
really enjoyed this book. its ages I 'read' this kind of title. I used to listen to a lot of Molly Harper so it's nice to find another author I enjoy. a very easy listen
the story skipped in a couple of places by a few seconds - dodgy editing I guess, but mot enough to miss any of the story.
