Publisher's Summary

Models is the first book ever written on seduction as an emotional process rather than a logical one, a process of connecting with women rather than impressing them. It's the most mature and honest guide on how a man can attract women without faking behavior, without lying and without emulating others. A game-changer. Inside, you'll learn:

  • The root behavior that causes all female attraction.
  • Why typical dating advice and pick up theory is counter-productive in the long-run.
  • How to overcome nervousness and anxiety around attractive women.
  • How any man can make himself appear attractive with a little time and effort.
  • The three keys to keeping conversations with women interesting and engaging.
  • How to discover the beliefs and attitudes that are sabotaging your success with women.
  • How to develop a genuine and joyful sense of humor.

And much more...

A healthy take on an age old struggle

A Mark Manson classic on the art of seduction, free from the trickery, manipulation and bro talk so common from other authors.

Good book but more philosophical than practical

I was excited for this book due to the great reviews. However half way through I found myself still waiting for the actual "strategies".

I found the book mostly philosophical/common sense and self-improvement focused, rather than a practical pick up instruction manual. It did serve as useful reminders, but a lot of stuff I knew already and it is probably more tailored to people who haven't had much experience with women or have low self-esteem.

The premise of the book was on attracting women by not being needy and being comfortable with who you are, whilst also being vulnerable and targeting girls within your league.

I find most of this true in theory, but in reality there's a fine balance between showing interest, but not coming across as TOO interested (or needy), which it didn't elaborate much on (push/pull, as some other PUA material refers to it as).

The author appeared to almost put down other PUA material that focused on techniques and processes (I sensed a lot was directed at Mystery Method), rather than taking an honest and natural approach which this book advocates for.

If you are looking for a book with canned pick-up openers and conversation points, this is not the book for you. If, however, you are looking to improve your self-esteem, and gain the reassurance of being comfortable with who you are (which in turn will improve your attractiveness to women), whilst overcoming fear of approach and rejection, this is a good book.

Bits I liked (mostly useful reminders):
- The overall philosophy of the book of being comfortable with who you are and being true to yourself
- Targeting your demographic (e.g. don't dress like an investment banker if you are into goth chicks)
- Being aware that you will NOT be successful ALL the time. No guy has a 100% success rate and EVERY guy will face rejection. The quicker you can accept this and get used to it, the quicker and better you will be at overcoming the fear of approach which will help you get more women (it’s a numbers game after all).
- Following on from the above, just because a guy is successful in one arena, doesn’t mean he will be successful all the time (e.g. a highly-flying middle-aged executive will be considered attractive amongst his corporate peers, but will likely struggle at a college party to compete with the care-free jock who can down a pint in 10 seconds)
- Not being needy and obsessing over one girl. A personal saying of mine which helps me quickly overcome rejection is “there’s always another girl” (which there is, no matter how convinced you are that the person that rejected you was the ‘one’). The more girls you are talking to (even as friends) helps you in the long run by 1) social proof (girls are attracted to guys who get other girls), 2) boosts your confidence and makes you generally better at speaking to women, and 3) when you know you have options, you are less likely to invest all your stock in one girl (at least early on) and thus come across as needy
- Although not as relevant to me, it did provide some basic tips on increasing your attractiveness with your dress sense, fitness etc.

What I didn’t like:
- The book doesn't provide much practical material to work with such as openers or conversation points
- The book focused on targeting your "convertible" range e.g. girls that are either already attracted to you or unsure. But this is easier said than done, as you can always use the excuse for a failed pickup that the girl was never going to be attracted to you anyway. It doesn’t give much insight into determining the girls that are ‘unsure’ VS ‘uninterested’ either. I believe this is more a philosophy however, to help overcome the fear of rejection and approach, which I believe is the author’s main intention
- Following on from the above, “being honest” and “true to yourself” may work to a degree, but it helps if you are already somewhat confident/attractive. For the less good-looking or experienced people, I feel more practical techniques could be helpful rather than simply “playing within their league” – although there are plenty of other books focused on this

Closing remarks:
The book mainly focuses on your mental state, overcoming fear of rejection and increasing your odds by approaching as many girls as you can, with the idea that if you are comfortable with who you are and true to yourself (as well as work on things such as your dress and fitness), you will in turn maximise your attractiveness and thus increase the odds of the amount of women you get.

A must read for any man

No book or advice I’ve ever come across about women, men, relationships, and attraction has ever hit home as much as this book. The themes discussed are not what one may expect, & definitely not what is typically of a pick up book. Everyone deserves to be as attractive as they can: this book will help.

Narration has been updated - it’s great!

I was almost turned away because of the reviews warning against the author’s narration. Looks like he took their advice and hired a pro. Austin does a great job. This is a fantastic book!

its just good!

its like a friend's uncle just kicked knowledge for some hours and it was all stuff that you could relate to and/or understand. its not read as well as "the subtle art of not giving a f" but that also makes it easier to relate to the narrator...who happens to be the author. It wasn't underwhelming at all to me because none of what he said sounded contrived or like something somebody says to just sound like they know it all. Alot of it is just encouragement/reassurance but don't let that stop you, because it might be new to you. Things I've been told before or have come to realize, Mark talks about. But for me that was cool because its like I get to have somebody remind me, that being realistic and doubting myself are NOT the same thing. I hope this helps.

The content is great but the reader is awful

What did you like best about Models? What did you like least?

Models shows a great way for men to think about the world and their relationship with women. It really focuses on improving yourself.

Mark Manson read it himself. It sounds like it was recorded in front of his computer and he left all the misreads and stumbles in. I could hear mouse clicks and I'm pretty sure he got text messages while recording.

Would you be willing to try another one of Mark Manson’s performances?

No. Absolutely not. It was a 7 hour book recorded in 7 hours and a ton of mistakes left in. The negative listening experience definitely can overshadow the amazing content.

Did Models inspire you to do anything?

It inspired me to change the way I thought about my relationships with women.

Any additional comments?

Mark, please have this re-recorded with a pro reader.

Great book for any "Needy" guy in relationships!

Outstanding book Mark, not only have you taught me to be more self aware of how I interact with women, but your book has educated me to in-power my me by improving my self image! My existing girl friend had notice positive changes immediately once I started reading your book!

Thank you Mark, I really appreciate your outstanding knowledge specifically when it comes to understanding the opposite sex!

I like that he had trouble narrating.

This is a book about fear, growth and building yourself so that the life outside of you is that way that you want. Is about running towards a mixture of failure and success, because that is the only way big successes will come about.

The author's narration was sometimes troubled. He was always easy to understand, but he often sounded like your buddy at a dive bar telling you his discovery about dating.

And that is the point.

He isn't perfect and polished the whole way, because he isn't afraid to screw up. If Simon Vance were narrating this would get an Audie, but probably not change as many lives. As it is, this is the book I needed right now. Not for dating insights or style tips, but a kick in the ass to go pursue the life that I want.

tl;dr: GET THIS BOOK!!

The narration kills all credibility

While I’m not against an author narrating his own book, there are instances like this one when it’s just a bad idea. Not to say that this author could have done at least an adequate job if he had made an effort. Instead, what the listener is brutally subjected to is an unedited, unrehearsed and haphazard attempt at reading the text. It’s reminiscent of a junior high school student fumbling through a presentation of a just finished report, which was copied out of an encyclopedia and never really comprehended. It’s a shame, because the content has value but the delivery completely ruins even the most robust of concepts. All credibility in the material is lost when it’s coming from a source that sells such a weakly produced product. In addition to the lack of editing or proofreading, the author seemed to not even have given it a listen before releasing it for sale. The copyright and legal disclaimer at the beginning is read and for some reason explained before launching into the first section, which begins by repeating the same thing. I feel bad that the author doesn’t have a coach, advisor or even friend that could have told him of that and other mistakes. Or maybe he just doesn’t care. Expecting people to pay for something so poorly rendered is just wrong. I’ve often found that complaints regarding narrators of audiobooks were a bit petty and based mostly on certain style preferences. However, this audiobook is in an entirely new and more severe category of bad productions. I think I’m being a bit generous in giving the content a B+, the writing a C-and the narration a D-.

Best outlook on women yet

I have been bombarded with many perceptions in the red pill community that women are objects and sex is the only thing that matters. After reading this book it opened me to the idea of meaning in relationships with women and being honest with yourself and others to attract the right women.

A rare, insightful take on personal independence.

I've read and reread many well known psychology books on codependency, narcissism and healthy interdependence (aka "good relationships"), and Models for me takes its place as one of the best, how to fix yourself, books I've ever read.

Sure, the premise is about attracting women from a man's perspective, but that's just the hook as this book accurately describes the need for honesty with one's self and honesty with those we interact with and especially with women. In explaining why honesty empowers you and why honesty matters, I found many useful insights into personal independence that parallel many psychology self-help books by PhDs and experts. Take out the chapter on sex and one night stands (not that the author is wrong for including these topics) as they are a bit of a detraction, and you have one of the most practical self-help books I've ever read for needy, and/or codependent "nice guys."

Models is a great book for men in general.

Excellent insightful book marred by the narration

What did you like most about Models?

A truly first class book on understanding what women want. Probably the best I have ever come across.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The error the writer Mark Manson made is in narrating the book himself. Really worthwhile, thought provoking information comes across quite flat. Also there are clicks at the beginning of each chapter where he is turning on the recording machine. The recording quality is poor too.

Superb

Had this recommended by a female friend, listened to it while walking around my city and it really really spoke to me. I feel like an idiot to be thinking this but I feel like it's changed my perception of the world. Before I focussed on bettering myself to make others like me - now I'll do it to give ME a better life, the other things will come naturally. Thank you mr Manson, I'm sure you know you've changed a few lives in your life.

Zero fluff, right to the point.

I'm 2 hours in and there hasn't been a single drop of filler. Everything he says is cut throat to the point and somehow there's still 6 hours left.

He tells you how it is, followed by a story, and as he's telling you the story you can already see everything the guy is doing wrong like it was obvious the whole time. And then you realise that's just how fast you're learning.

All the negative reviews seemed to be about the author (Mark Manson) reading this too monotone, but they evidently have swapped him out for someone more expressive.

ESSENTIAL LISTENING! Wish I had this when I was 15

Best book ever about dating at any age. This is the book. Get it and listen! You will thank me if you do, and you will be released from all the dissatisfaction you currently have and set on a road to fulfilment. This thorough book leaves no holes barred and tells you like it is. The author completely nails it. Following the advice in this book will save you countless time, money and angst. This is the definitive manual. I listened to this book over a 10 day period and already I've had results just in this time. I've had a date already with a v attractive lady and I've arranged for 2 more dates with two others. This would not be the case if I hadn't read this book. It gave me the courage, knowledge and strength to make those dates which I never would have done as I'm quite shy and often vague and blocked in being sexual with woman (I don't mean girlfriends, I mean girls I'm attracted to). I thought I wasn't until I listened and then realised how unclear and scared I really was. And that by giving in to my fear and insecurities I wasn't being true to myself at all or going for what I really wanted and this book has given me the balls and reasons to make the shift and follow through. For instance, I literally have turned a gourgeous woman who was a coworker and who I was scared to ask out into a hot date this Weekend just by manning up and expressing my interest in an honest and playful way, where she feels beautiful and desired. I have listened to many podcasts and watched many dating videos over the years, and had many girlfriends, so yes I have experience already and I've slept with over a hundred women, but have been failing miserably recently to have a decent sex life and love life yet in days the nuggets in this book have helped me so much in my understanding of the dynamics of dating and male female relating and I'm already seeing the results. I intend to relisten once a month, so it really goes in. Mark Masons is a hero for all men who have challenges in the dating realms.

Rare author in PD not lost with trying to teach how to read others mind, reinventing evolution and redefining communication stuff.
