Publisher's Summary

She was created for a purpose so revolutionary, someone was willing to kill for it.

Seventeen-year-old Lexi Matthews keeps two secrets from her elite boarding school classmates - she's the daughter of a famous and controversial geneticist, and she can influence people's thoughts.

But after new student Jack DeWeese heals her broken arm with an anything-but-simple touch, he forces Lexi to face a new reality - her abilities reach much further than speaking to the minds of others.

After Lexi's father goes missing and she receives threatening emails, she can't decide whether to fall into Jack's arms or run and hide.

As Lexi seeks answers to what she and Jack are, she discovers a truth more unsettling than anything her science books can teach. And letting Jack into her life of secrets is not only a threat to her very existence, but it just might break her heart wide open.

Gripping YA novel, clean

Story: 4.5 stars!

So many twists and turns! What a gripping novel! Can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

Just when the reader thinks the bad guys are all discovered, another, then another, show up.

Narration (4.5 stars) Very good narration! Female narrator who does a good job with the male voices.

*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special

No ending

Thought it was a little slow. Hated the ending. It doesn't have a clean ending. Doesn't tell you anything.

info is slow and a cliffhanger for your trouble

it had my attention at the beginning. Then on and on and on with only tidbits of information here and there. The doling out of information was too slow. several times i almost gave up. You did feel for the girl as she didn't know who to trust. Then when you are on the next to the last chapter information comes. Some information. Then when she figures out who has been after her, it ends. Rather a cliffhanger. #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

The audio recording is terrible

While the narrator of this book was great, the recording quality is terrible. Extra tinny. I had to adjust my playback EQ a ton to make it just tolerable.

This story is ok. There are a lot of qualities that I found disturbing within the relationship of Lexi & Jack. Disturbing because while I realize this is a YA fantasy series, insta-love sets up unrealistic relationship expectations for young people. Disturbing because the dominating way that Jack treats Lexi is borderline abusive (grabs her arm, whipping her around; grabs her so hard it hurts; etc.) He treats her like property, which is disgusting. Jack literally sets her schedule for things telling her HE is the one who will keep her safe and no one else can. Yuck. Jack lies to her over and over again and she just accepts it when he apologizes and says he loves her. If those things noted above aren’t the starter pack meme pics of a future abusive relationship, I don’t know what is.

I can honestly say that I probably won’t be reading the rest of the series and I would absolutely not recommend this book to young female readers who are at all impressionable. The whole thing made me feel gross. I LOVED the concept, but the story produced from said concept by this writer is something of which I am not at all a fan .

Good start to new series

I enjoyed this book. There were twists, turns, and a bit of romance. Some of the stuff that happened was a little hard to believe (it's sci-fi after all) but I can't wait to see what the rest of the series has in store for us.

Too long

I think this book dragged on way too long, especially for part of a series. The narrator dragged her words out slowly which I wasn’t fond of. All in all, the premise was decent but I wasn’t a fan of the book.
