Summary

Tad doesn't have any memory before waking up on the beach, apparently the sole survivor of a shipwreck. All he has from his past is a necklace with a symbol no one recognizes.

After growing up in the orphanage, he takes a job managing inventory for a merchant catering to adventurers. He knows he's a bit off, the world just smells different to him.

When he's confronted by a group of adventurers with more power than ethics, he learns that it's been magic he is smelling all along. As the confrontation builds he learns that he can eat that same magic, but it isn't enough to keep him from being taken.

Waking up in a dungeon, he quickly learns they are more than monster filled pits. They are tools of the Great System and just maybe doorways through the multiverse.

Now he must struggle to prove his worth, grow in power, and master his strange ability, all complicated by the fact that the enchantments on his gear might just be alive.

I liked the initial mystery of who the main character really is, his coming into his powers and about his heritage as he levels up but that’s all it ended up being, no real climax. It spiralled towards the end as it started focusing on his void fae heritage, which kind of goes against the whole dungeon theme of the book. Dropped to 3 stars as it started spiralling off course from the expected theme, it had some dark villains and didn’t make me feel great because of them. Kind of doom and gloom. I liked that he grew a connection with feira a lizard female, and she’s very pretty and unique among her race.

most of this book is about explaining levels, statistics how everything works rather than telling much of an actual story. wasn't able to finish this book

have read 10 or so other books from this author and this one isnt as good as "welcome to the multiverse". Maybe around the same quality as his other series. not sure cause I dropped all those as well.

I have just come back from getting to book 10 on "welcome to the multiverse" and can say that is also rapidly getting worse as well. So I think that will be the end of the books I get from this guy

the author decided to place what happened in between two books inside book 10 of his other series presenting only a summary in this series. so the only way to get the complete story is to heavily invest in another.
