Publisher's Summary

Jack Reilly’s luck ran out just before the war did. Released on a medical discharge shortly after the end of the war with the Serkins, he went out into the galaxy looking for a job. Signing onto the Glacier Runner 17, an old and rundown cargo ship, Rielly finds himself working for a clueless captain, mixed-up in an intergalactic conspiracy, on the run from assassins, and involved with two women in relationships that he could only call "complicated".

Fans of Matthew O. Duncan will recognize the universe as the same as from the New Terra Sagas, but this is not a sequel. This is a stand-alone spin-off with new characters, new worlds, and in a different format. Told in the first person from Reilly’s perspective, this is a fast-moving, non-stop sci-fi adventure.

Great Military Adventure!

Story is well written. Any adult situations were tactfully described with more than just the physical aspect only. The narration was quite smooth and professional. All Military action was described as though the author had Military experience.
I recommend this book for ages 16+ due to tense situations depicted.
I was given the audiobook for free, and I freely do give my evaluation of it.

Don't mess with the Engineer.

Really fun story. I loved how the humble retired-ish Reilly stayed one step ahead of everyone throughout the entire story. Well, maybe not his relationships, but the enemy at least. Lots of mystery, action and pulling victory from the jaws of defeat. If I'm going to space, I'd like him in the engine room!

Please say there is a book two!

This was easily one of my most enjoyable books this year!! I loved the main character, Jack Reilly!! He was smart, military, older, and wiser. And he kept saving the day!!!!!

The two main females were equal parts soft and hard. Together they rounded out all the rough edges for Jack and made for some very interesting interplay.

The narrator was something special. This book was non-stop action with a variety of characters. Everything was performed to perfection.

I can't tell from the title if this is a series but I certainly hope so!!

A great old-fashioned Space Opera

First, to get it out of the way. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
That being said, this is a great story for anyone that loves the Science Fiction of the John W. Campbell era. This story has the flavor of those stories written by Andre Norton, Eric Frank Russell, and others of that time.
The story flows well, The narrator gives life to the characters and, and the combination I found, left the story ending much sooner than I wanted.

Full of action

I very much enjoyed this story and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Lt Reilly finds himself and his companions in so many no win situations that they consistently find a way out. The action is continuous and the story keeps you engaged. The book is short enough that you can listen to it in a day. Matthew Duncan and Dave Cruse make for a good team for this story.
