Publisher's Summary

From Australia’s Dr Happy, this is a guidebook to the power of becoming a bit more lost – to getting out of our own heads and going off the beaten track.

Dr Tim Sharp has been researching, writing and speaking about happiness for decades, as one of Australia’s leaders of the positive psychology movement. But in recent years, he’s realised that maybe he’s been a bit more lost than he wanted to admit. And that might actually be a good thing.

A large and growing body of research highlights the value of getting ‘lost’ to improve our resilience and our mental health. That could mean literally wandering outdoors in nature or letting our minds do the wandering by sitting with negative thoughts and unpleasant emotions, rather than constantly trying to fight or push them away.

Packed with psychological insights, practical tips and personal stories from Tim’s life, Lost & Found is a new kind of self-help book that invites all of you to the table: the bad and the good, your failures and your successes, challenges and breakthroughs. By sitting with discomfort, we allow ourselves to become more authentic and vulnerable – and by becoming lost, we find our true selves.

Dr Tim Sharp is Australia's very own 'Dr Happy', at the forefront of the positive psychology movement and founder of the Happiness Institute. He has run one of Sydney's most respected clinical psychology practices, a highly regarded executive coaching practice, has taught at most of the major universities in Australia and is currently Adjunct Professor at both UTS and RMIT.

He is also the bestselling author of a number of books, including The Good Sleep Guide, The Happiness Handbook, 100 Ways to Happiness and 100 Ways to Happy Children, and the popular Habits for Happiness audiobook series with Audible. He regularly appears on Australian TV, featuring on Today, The Morning Show, Studio 10, The Project and many other programs.

excellent resource for finding your way

Dr Tim is a great communicator and easily shows us how to wander through our lives without harsh judgement or negatively. in fact he is a proponent of Positive Psychology and I found that really interesting considering the traditional model of therapy has a different pedagogy.

Accessible and valuable

This book was not what I was expecting but totally what I needed! As a mid-lifer I have achieved some of the signposts thinking that Dr Tim describes but others I’ve been inspired to adopt in the second half of my life. Also wonderful to have these tips and information to share with our children and friends…thanks Tim, that was awesome!

Get Lost ! We need to do this more

In this times we need to have more affirmations, check ins that were on the right path if not we should adjust and seek help, with out the stigma getting in the way. This writer book gives real life experiences to explain concepts but in no way pushes any big ideas on to you so it's a listen and see if it's a good fit for you. Get happy everyone.

let's get practical

in a world where realness seems out of reach or the "thanks for sharing" has been mistakenly taken the wrong way - I found the delivery down to earth, practical, sensible and hopeful 👏👏👏, Some recognition on how people living with disability manage in what can be very negative narratives would have made this current book even better seeing as we've just had the Royal Commission into Disability. I feel this book was like a springboard to bounce on and jump confidently into the unknown of becoming lost and found, thank you 🙏 thank you for sharing your vulnerability!
