Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of Lords and Ladies is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'People didn't seem to be able to remember what it was like with the elves around. Life was certainly more interesting then, but usually because it was shorter. And it was more colourful, if you liked the colour of blood....'

On Midsummer Night, dreams are especially powerful. So powerful, in fact, that they can cause the walls between realities to come crashing down. And some things you really don't want to break through.

The witches Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick return home to discover that elves have invaded Lancre. And even in a world of wizards, trolls, dwarfs, Morris dancers - and the odd orangutan - they're spectacularly nasty creatures.

The fairies are back - and this time they don't just want your teeth....

Lords and Ladies is the fourth book in the Witches series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series – The Colour of Magic – was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Enter the Discworld

The Discworld is one of my favourite places to visit and Lords and Ladies is a fantastic example of why. The story is engaging and powerful in a way that will catch you off guard. Whether you are a fan of fantasy, Shakespeare, action, amazingly written characters or just good writing I think you’ll love this book.
Reading the preceding books in the witches arc (Wyrd Sisters, Witches Abroad) will give you a better appreciation of the character development however this book can also be thoroughly enjoyed as a starting point to the Discworld. Or an old favourite to revisit (as it is for me), the magic never fades, in fact you’ll find a new element of magic each time you come back, because it is simply too well written for the complete amazing-ness to be absorbed in one reading. GNU Sir Terry Pratchett.

Narration in this audio book certainly does it justice. The patterns and inflections reflect an appreciation and understanding of the book. The voices are engaging and it’s easy to differentiate between characters without being over the top and ‘cringey’, for want of a better word.

Everything about the narration of the Witches books is perfect. This is no exception. I listen to each multiple times a year

No Mr Nighy?

I kind of wish you could get a version without Mr Nighy. He interrupts the flow of what’s being said and he also sounds like he’d rather be in bed. I have definitely been a fan of his and I’m sure he’s a lovely person irl

Lancre is pronounced correctly!

This is the second audio version of this book I have bought and I love it - place names are pronounced correctly and it's nice hearing a Witches book narrated by a woman.
The story is great obviously, and the narration just MAKES it!
