Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of Carpe Jugulum is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Steven Cree (Outlander; A Discovery of Witches) voices the Nac Mac Feegles. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

''Carpe Jugulum,' read Agnes aloud. 'That's...well, Carpe Diem is Seize the Day, so this means -'

'Go for the throat....''

Vampires have come to Lancre, but they're not what you'd expect. Sure, they drink blood and view humans as dinner, but they're modern and sophisticated. They've got style and fancy waistcoats. And they're not a bit afraid of garlic.

The Magpyr family are out of the casket and want a bite of the future. But they haven't met the neighbours yet.

Between them and Lancre stand a coven of four - Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat and young Agnes - and they don't take kindly to murderous intruders....

Carpe Jugulum is the sixth book in the Witches series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series – The Colour of Magic – was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Disappointed in Bill Nighy

I was a little disappointed and sad in the way Bill Nighy read the footnotes. It sounded like he just didn’t want to be there. The others were amazing x

Audio production not amazing

The main narrator does a great job when she is narrating but the character voices chosen are quite annoying. Unfortunately, especially the chosen voices are accents of the Witches, it just doesn't work well. Also having Bill Nighy reading the footnotes just doesn't work, it takes you out of the story, and the voice of death just seems too far from the original. I think if you have listened to the Nigel Planer recordings you will be disappointed with this new one. Unfortunately, it seems Audible is not making those recordings available anymore.

Another good one.

Another great rendition of a Discworld novel. So many characters portrayed by so few performers!

Every book becomes my new Discworld favourite

I don't know why I waited so long to try the Discworld books, but I have been reading them in order for the past few months and am loving almost all of them.
I found some of the narration by Steven Cree hard to hear and understand due to how the audio was mixed, but overall fantastic as always.

Carpe Jugulum got me in the jugulum

Well crafty … er …crafted … journey into the unknown region of Ubervald where the modern uprising of the Vampyres is afoot. Granny, Nanny, Magrat and Agnes save the night with the help of Om’s servant, a newly anointed outreach minister, with a large boil on his face, who lands in Lancre. This is Terry Pratchett’s impeccably entertaining fourth sequel of the Witches saga. The narrator is the absolute cherry on the top, her individuation of the characters is brilliant. Being familiar with the characters from the earlier witches, though not essential, certainly made for a better “read”. Thank you !!

Carpe Jugulum - A wonderful listen

Indira Varma really hits her Discworld stride with Carpe Jugulum. She has been a good narrator from Wyrd Sisters on, but with Carpe Jugulum she's brilliant. I really hope she's chosen as the narrator for the Tiffany Aching books. After all, they're also part of the Witches series, and the Nac Mac Feegles have been introduced in Carpe Jugulum - with brilliant voices (surely not all Indira?)

Fantastic! So well done.

I was so delighted with Indira Varma’s characterisation of Granny: nerve wracking to see how someone will interpret a beloved favourite and Indira absolutely nailed it: wise and dry and cynical and humanist: perfect.
